Contaminated liquid culture and agar? (Pics included)
    #27034576 - 11/12/20 05:42 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Hi everyone! Very new to mushroom cultivation as a hobby. Using a spore syringe, I prepared liquid cultures. I also plated on agar plates. A couple weeks later, and I'm not sure if it's contaminated. Could you please help this newbie out?

I can't see the pics well, but the top 2 plates look troubling due to the small dots (maybe bacterial). The bottom 2 plates are concerning because of the more off-white looking mycelium and the interactions between the mycelium (see split on bottom right plate at around 6:00).
As for the LC, I would not recommend using spore solution to inoculate. You can read more on this website as to why, but just use agar to inoculate. Anyways, transfer whatever growth you deem is salvageable.

Crack open the LC jar and see how it smells, if it smells horrid, it'll be a good lesson to not inoc LC with spores. If it smells like mushrooms, congrats but dump it anyways since you opened it.

Thanks for your advice! Yeah, the bottom two plates are looking fluffy and fuzzy. I wonder what contaminant it is. Maybe cobweb mold?
