Hello again shroomery!
So This time around i am having problems with mutation. I am currently working on P.E. and come across a LARGE percentage of mutants. I'd say up to 80 % of my P.e. are mutated. I suspect from reading its either from Using Lysol to disinfect the room i was inoculating in and adding a casing layer in OR from genetics.
First of all, I've been inoculating one liquid culture to the next. If i count it correctly I've started with spores from the hawks eye and remade liquid culture baby bottles from grow to grow about 7 times now. Could the mutants be from transferring the end on one liquid culture to the next 7 times in about the a year period? I never got contamination's..... just mutants the last 2 times around, and LOTS OF THEM
As for my sterile room.... i put down a tent tarp, build a 7 foot cube structure, and duct tape painters plastic on the remaining 5 corners. I then bleach wipe the walls, roof and floor. Hook up 3 hepa filters blowing in clean air and creating a positive pressure in the room. i also sprayed Lysol in the air, waited 20 minutes, sprayed Lysol again, waiting 30 minutes and then i would get started.
I have had no contamination's, but I've ended up with lots of mutants!!! any idea why??? can anyone fill me in on mutants? why mine ended up this way? pics are below.......
and for those of you who want the specifications......
* I innoc the liquid cultures (5% organic honey in sterile water, pressure cooked..... no caramelizing occurred) * I inoculated on on red winter wheat (all ended up 100% colonized and i had 0 contams)
* my casing I make i learned from this forum here http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11916595#11916595
* I waiting until the myc poked through evenly at 50% and patched when i needed before putting into fruiting. I kept bing at 85 degrees, in my storage closet with no light or air exchange at all.
About 2 weeks ago i put them in fruiting. light on 10 hours, 14 off at the same time every day. i have a portable Ac that kept them close to 75 degrees (lowest Ive seen in 72, highest was 79). I've been introducing them to fresh air 3-4 times a day. I have a hepa feltered hooked to a 1 inch hose the extends from my living room to bedroom. that way im drawing fresh oxygen from another room, through a hepa filer. I did this so i don't just recirculate the same stagnant air in one room when im giving oxygen. I allow 1- 2 minutes of fresh air circulation for each bin 3 times a day. 2 weeks into fruiting I've been getting pins (about 3 days ago they started)
there are no contams so far, but a large # of them are mutants.
i know p.e. has some strange looking mushies, Here are some pictures of what i ended up with last time around.... and the pin development looks the same this time around...... looks like mutants =/

Well its been 48 hours, that means i can bump right? =)
Besides Lysol and genetics, I've also been reading on the forum that UV lights can cause mutation.
I've been using these Under cabinet grow lights from walmart. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lights-of-America-24-Fluorescent-Grow-Light-Fixture/16879945
I've read that Florescent emit a small amount of UV light, But I've used these lights before and never had a problem with them.
Also I've grown B+, Cambodia, and Ecuador P.C. Strains multiple times and never had mutants before. Is the Penis Envy Strain prone to mutation?

Cracking me up XD I'm just learning about agar work, isolating, etc. and stumbled here! 2nd mutation I've seen and the second that looks all poofed out. Interesting!
