Cambridgeshire first time hunting advice
    #27033219 - 11/11/20 11:03 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Hi! Excuse the first post. I'm a student in Cambridgeshire, UK and have decided I want to try hunting for liberty caps. I was wondering what advice people have if any for hunting around here. I've tried going along some public footpaths and bridleways, but most the land seems plowed so I don't know if that makes it a waste of time. Further, I've read that fields grazed by animals tend to be good spots to look, however I'm a bit hesitant to just roam someone's field. I come from Texas where "trespassers will be shot" is the first thing that comes to mind  Does this tend to be an issue? When people mention hopping into fields is that something you have to do discretely, or is it generally not an issue?

This is mind, public wildlife areas seem preferable. There are some nearby that I haven't gotten to visit yet. Are wooded areas worth checking or should I really be focused on pastures? Same with the various university gardens. I rarely see people recommending such types of spots so I've just assumed they're not worth the time, however if they were they'd obviously be the easiest for me to check first.

Also, just as a foreword--as I'm hunting right now its mainly just for fun with the hope of making some finds. I don't plan to consume anything I haven't gotten thorough identification of.

Trust your instincts and stay away from private property where most of the tilled land may be.  As you said if the land is plowed then how do the mushrooms still grow there?  Most likely they don't.  I don't have personal experience hunting libs, but from what I read They seem to be a wild mushroom that are grown in opening or fields near the forest especially during cool weather where fog, humidity and rain are near and present.
