Did I fuck up my spawn jars with plaster of paris?
    #27033062 - 11/11/20 09:21 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys, so I prep'ed 9 jars of sorghum spawn.
For some reason I wanted to try with Gypsum because I heard it has benefits, so I added like 1/4-1/3 of a tablespoon in.

Only after I inoculated all the jars I realized that it was actually plaster of paris instead of gypsum.

Did I fuck it up or will it still work.

BTW I don't even know if you should add the gypsum directly to the grain before spawning. Impulsive move on my part

That's definitely goofy, but it may still work.

Plaster of Paris becomes gypsum when set. This means it won't add any significant toxicity to your myc.

Worst case is that it either coats your grains in a way that the myc can't reach them, and/or it locks your grains together. With that small amount of plaster, neither of these things seem likely to happen.

I'm new to this stuff, so take my words with a grain of salt (or gypsum).

I'd say wait and see what happens. It'll probably be okay.
