How do I increase yield? * 1
    #27033001 - 11/11/20 08:45 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

I mist when I don't see droplets on the surface, but it seems like the surface is still wet. I picked a mushroom today and it felt too mushy.

Other than that, how else do I increase yield? I have a ton of side pins as well... how do I trigger those to grow?

Also, all of the mushrooms have yellow bottoms. I'm guessing these are metabolites?

how much spawn/sub did you use and what are the conditions? if that isnt a casing layer your sub isnt completly colonized

You have alot of pins! are they aborts or still growing? if aborts you should pick em before start rotting.

Im doing shoebox grow my self, im getting side pins. need to use a plastic liner so it hold on to substrate. dont get gap between substrate and shoebox, becouse it will create perfect humidity and trigger pinning

I know everyone disagrees, but i use blacklights to make pins

Light doesn't form pins. They pin in complete darkness. Good lighting helps appearance and yield.

I think this is one of my flaws. How do you know what's just wet enough?

I've been using the rule of mist when I don't see beads of water on the mycelium, regardless of how wet it is overall.

Doing some conversions, I'm about 4 parts coco coir to 1 part brf cake. What's the optimal amount?

That's not a casing layer, but the shoebox's been colonizing for a month now and started pinning on its own, so I started fruiting conditions.

I have a ton of pins for sure! They aren't growing at the moment. According to something I read by RR, they're still viable, they just haven't met their trigger condition yet. I'm going to keep them there for future flushes

Yeah less moisture more air.

How much brf cake is in there? They look pretty healthy but there might not be enough spawn to support more shrooms. I think people usually end up with like 4-6g per half pint brf cake.

3 cakes. One of them went through two flushes already.

4-6g dry? I'm probably good for another ~8-12g then. I don't understand why PF tek is so recommended for beginners. It seems like a lot of work for very little reward.

I completely agree I’ve been saying shoeboxes should be the standard first grow for a while.

Lol haven’t thrown this up in a while so

When I started I did wbs shoeboxes and brf cakes at the same time with the same syringe. Here was the result, and the shoebox was on second flush by the time the cake even pinned.

If you can afford a pressure cooker or already have one, I'd definitely say doing agar to grain and spawning to a shoebox (as AKA said) is best.

Pf tek has a couple advantages, you don't need a pressure cooker and spore to pf tek is generally more successful than spore to grain.

THAT WAS YOUR FIRST GROW??? Wow. I would be happy if my cake did that. What's WBS? These are golden teachers?

PF Tek is a waste of time. You are correct ... alot of work with little reward. Buy some rye grain bags next time and inoculate those. Go with a shoebox grow and turn it into a dubtub.

I dunno man. BRF cakes grated into coir is an easy way to grow lots of mushrooms. No PC required, MSS friendly, pretty high contam resistance. If I hadn't bought a PC for messing around with agar and such I'd be more than happy just steaming BRF jars and spawning them to coir.

Totally.
PF Tek is a great starting ground for mushroom cultivation that allows you to branch out to bigger and better cultivation methods, like grain to bulk and agar and such. But even sticking with BRF to coir bulk, it's pretty epic I've heard. I'm doing it in just a few days! I support everyone who does PF Tek and it's variations. What works best for people is what people should do.
Cheers!

Welp, I'm definitely doing something wrong then because I'm barely getting any flushes from BRF to coir. Man I need help...
