Great post! Thank you it helped me a lot! Question I’ve been using oat grains like you do for horses and I do the BRF cakes. Should I do an injection port with RTV and if so what brand/inoculation hole should I buy? And I just inoculated 6 oat jars and have a nail sized whole covered with micro pore take is that big enough for the gas exchange?

BRF for sure does not need a ship or also known as single healing injection port. The verm layer is your filter so you could do a ship it just overkill to me.
You don't have to to buy ships you can make them yourself with RTV check here or here too.
A nail sized hole should do fine with micropore tape.

Instead of a drill for the lids, I've found that a wood burner with the right tip will melt a perfect hole with much less effort than a drill and no risk of cracking the lid. You also don't have to fuck with a torch and reheating it like you would a nail/screwdriver/whatever.
It's also much easier to acquire if someone doesn't already have a drill and bits, they're fairly cheap on amazon or walmart usually less than $20 for a kit that has a lot of tips.
Foil is pretty unnecessary with SFDs in my experience, especially if you silicone it with the "smoother" side facing up. They may be slightly damp coming out of the pc but I pull them out still fairly hot so they dry out very quickly. And that's usually only if I'm doing 10 with the 3 sideways ones on top, they'll cause more water to pool on the lid of the middle one but even then I don't have much issue.
Good write up, nothing really new here but it's a nice explanation of your process. Check out the noob notes in my sig, it's hiding in my journal for now but I want to flesh it out some more and post it to the main mush cult forum eventually. It has some info you might find useful for your grain prep to speed things along or make some things easier, and some other good info besides. Feel free to comment any thoughts there too.
