teslacann said: Hi everyone, I have a very large carbon filter and a very large can-fan spare. Is it possible to make a more sterile Air Box by drilling a hole in the top, putting some ducting in, attaching it to the can-fan and have that pull air in through the carbon filter? I plan on trying to sterilise everything by spraying some alcohol through the running can-fan, wiping down the inside of the carbon filter and then attaching it. Is it worth doing or is this just some crazy pipe dream? Thanks in advance for your help! Teslacann
I doubt that. It's just not reasonable to think you can sterilize large objects like fans and cans plus large volumes of room air unless you are prepared to operate and use them all in a sterile enclosure. Like, one of the spacecraft assembly stations at JPL or NASA/Ames. You really need a HEPA filter or the air flow will just kick up dust and make things worse rather than better. You can buy a cheapo HEPA filter from Amazon for about $50. The hard part is getting it to deliver laminar flow across your setup, without drawing in contaminated air with dust and spores. I think that's possible (others on Shroomery disagree with me, so this is just my $0.02).

I can't help you with that. I wrote up my cheapo-HEPA tunnel here.
