I got my flu vaccination this year.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

So, that quote I just pulled off the CDC website is an illusion?

We'll have to wait and see what 2020-2021 looks like. Also, seems like testing stops between weeks 20 and 40. How many flu test were done last year, koods, since you have all the perfect sources that are always right?

What's your source? Link?

5,500 specimens tested?

You can't be serious.

How many Covid19 test were ran just yesterday?

5,500 flu test in an entire week? Across the entire nation of USA?

There's been close to 150,000,000 covid test run so far.

I bet a virtual dollar if they were running tens of thousands of test EVERY DAY for influenza, they would be finding more cases.

Your argument is crumbling.

Flu season has just begun.

It’s actually 15,000 tests.

But there’s no need to run surveillance tests when the flu positivity rate is 0.2%

If Covid positivity rates were that low we wouldn’t need to run 150,000,000 tests.

Didn’t you say you spent the summer learning about this stuff?

Yes - still collecting data and in fact the CDC flu team is also working on the covid too.  That is why the reports look similar and it working together.

Also, there was a push for vaccine because you never know what will happen - better safe than sorry having two bad respiratory viruses circulating. It's not like you can count on people to follow social distancing guidelines - but if they do, we will be much better off.  Especially if they are also getting vaccinated.

100% correct - you have to combine public health lab tests and clinical lab tests.

15,000 flu test combining clinical test and public health laboratory test.

Nationally, during week 43, 2,646,697 specimens were tested for SARS-CoV-2 for diagnostic purposes and 187,480 (7.1%) were positive.

Over 2.6 million covid test during week 43.

Right – it’s still early in the season for flu and we’re still not sure of the seasonality for coronavirus. But either way there’s a ton of covid out there.  A better measure of flu though would be to look at the ILI rates.  A lot of people don’t end up getting tested for flu but meet the clinical case definition.  You can see that that is so far below the cli rates.

One rather large difference between the two is that there’s a lot of asymptomatic transmission that happens with this  novel coronavirus.  While it likely happens to some degree with flu, it doesn’t happen on the same scale so you typically don’t test massive amounts of asymptomatic people. However with coronavirus it’s necessary because of the level of asymptomatic spread.  Just something else to consider when you’re looking at the data.

Start testing 2.6 million for flu in a week and you'll see an increase in cases.

Which brings flu test into question. Are they PCR test and are they set to a cycle rate of 40?

Flu season has just begun, and we're claiming there's no flu?

There might be a reason why there's less flu testing during off season. It's a waste of money to test for something that's not in season. No one's showing up at hospitals with flu because it's been summer time.

It's a waste of money to test millions of people per week for coronavirus 19 when 99% survive and many only suffer mild symptoms, if any symptoms at all.

Testing needs to be done on symptomatic people only.

https://www.cdc.gov/sars/clinical/guidance.html

I imagine if tens of millions of test were done for SARS-1, it's mortality rates would be much lower than what history shows.

This is why China opened up after two to four weeks. They had realized after testing 160 million people Covid19s true mortality rate of ~.03%.

I remember Trump talking about that number shortly before China started being ignored when it came to China virus information.

Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd(Labour) agrees and launched a petition last month calling for a Royal Commission into Murdochs domination of Australian media.
The petition broke the record for any previous e-petition in Aus, with the government website crashing on the first day before half a million people signed.

Pence is lying. Pfizer intentionally did not participate in Operation Warp Speed, one of the only companies that did not take any government funding.

Early tests are showing the Pfizer vaccine to be 90% effective, which clearly exceeds expectations.  It requires 2 shots and takes a month to offer protection. It may start distribution by the end of the year and would probably be available for most people by April.

They said they had like 30M doses, which is a drop in the bucket. They are going to have to scale to 6B or something.

I want to be optimistic, but my guess is the rich people will get those doses unless they are given out in more equitable countries like Germany. The health of US citizens, as we can tell by the current numbers, won't likely be a priority.

All of that said, it will be a boon for the economy. People are going to go fucking nuts for 6 months once they are free to roam.

Once it’s widely available they need implement rules:

Mandatory vaccination for attending schools and colleges. Mandatory vaccination for air travel. Mandatory vaccination to attend any event over 500 people.
