I'm trying to follow this tek, http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12278278
but whenever I handle a bag the injection ports I applied over one week ago come right off of the bag. What should I do?

Edit: What kind of silicone? Try "scoring" the bag by scuffing it with a knife, then apply.

I've tried using sandpaper to scuff it up in the past, and the silicone stays on just a little longer before falling off. I've read where some put on the silicone then put some PC tolerant tape over the silicone and inoculate thru the tape and silicone. Haven't tried it yet, I'm taking a break from bags as they have all gone south on me one way or the other.

try RTV silicone. and put a layer of micropore tape down. then lay down the silicone over the tape. when the tape gets pc it will act as a bonder and help hold the silicon on better.

I have used thousands of bags. None ever ported.
Mark injection spot with a magic marker. (needle hole alone is hard to see) Place a small square of clear packing tape over the spot. Inject through the packing tape. Place another small square of packing tape over the first. (seals the needle hole & doubles the tape protection) You are DONE.

Isn't that a lot less secure? I think what someone said about putting the autoclave tape on first and then the blob of silicone is the way to go. Has anyone actually done that before?

Easy, simple, quick & effective. After doing this a few thousand times, without fail. If thats not secure enough, you better buy bags with ports on them.
Or, buy a roller sealer & heat seal a rubber strip on bags to inject through.

This will probably work. I put micropore tape on some jars to label them and once those suckers went through the PC they never came off. Were talking at least 10 PC and dishwasher cycles later.
When i did bags I would score them like mentioned earlier with sandpaper and it worked fine for 1 time use.

This is very similar to the way I inoculate spawn bags. Except I prepare squares of ducting tape to cover the inoculation holes with. Just inoculate through the bag and cover the inoculation hole with tape. Never thought of using a marker to mark the point of inoculation before inoculating.
This is a good idea. Once in a while the syringe will slip out of my alcohol soaked rubber gloves and out of the hole before I get the hole covered with tape. It's easy to lose sight of the hole when this happens.
With a dot marked for your inoculation point with a marker. Losing sight of the inoculation point when my syringe slips out of my alcohol soaked hands with rubber gloves on them will become a thing of the past. Thanks for another great tip and inadvertent solution to a personal problem I have been having with bags, myco.

Make a small hole in the bag and apply silicon to both sides of the hole.
