so i have Agar plates and i know how to make brf cakes and ive done the uncle bens bags. my question is what is best to start on? whats the point to Agar plates when you can just use spores to grain/brf. can you do a swab to grain or to any thing else or do you have to start with agar? also same question with prints. my goal is to do a bulk grow! i have a 38QT tub and it has holes in it for fae. i need temp and humidity lvls i should be at and what to use when i spawn to bulk (verm, coir, gympsum) my last request is that if you guys have any teks you swear by im willing to read! this website is amazing but slightly confusing on where to find info and i feel a little lost. i had 2 grows lost to Trich and i have a uncle bens bag that i feel is stalling out and i need some help! the uncle bens bag cake is on a tin foil on perlite and hasnt really done anything in a week. temp is 73-78 and humidity is about 90% and above.

You can start with regular 1/2 pint PF jars and MS syringes. It works.
But, If your intent is to grow bulk you will have to do many 1/2 pint jars and then break them up into your bulk of choice. This is possible and I have done it many times but agar/grain is easier for bulk.
But PF 1/2 pint jars are great for small grows such as testing out a clones or isolation. I use them for that purpose in plastic ice cream buckets in a martha.
IDK anything about Uncle Bens.

Another benefit is how far you can stretch the syringe. It's pretty much indefinite.

Yes. Think about it this way. Let's say you put a drop from a syringe on an agar plate. You let it grow out some and made a transfer from the fastest and best growing mycelium (T1). From T1 you found that two distinct sections of mycelium were growing out nicely so you took a transfer from each (T1A and T1b). T1A and T1b plates look great. The sky's the limit from here. You can make more plates out of each of them. How many plates could you make from one plate? I don't know for sure but a lot. Or you could put each plate to grain, let colonize and put to a shoebox. Or do a bunch of grain to grain transfers and do a big monotub.
And if you're working with agar you can clone your best fruit or take a spore print and put them to agar and start the whole process over again. And if you put the original plate and plate T1 in the fridge, you could start over again from there doing more agar transfers.
At the end of the day you can grow a lot of mushrooms from just a drop of a syringe rather than putting a whole syringe into BRF jars or a grain bag. And as I previously mentioned, with agar you don't need to buy more spores if you plan ahead. The added benefit is, if the syringe no matter if it's purchased or homemade is contaminated. You can transfer away from the contamination rather then wasting a syringe and BRF jars or grain bags.

I would just use a clean scalpel and get the smallest amount, if you can see spores its plenty.
