Gratitude, my ass...I was perfectly happy with the old board...now I'm supposed to be grateful for a sudden change that took the board down for...what, two weeks or so? Only to replace the old one with something that does the same thing, and looks crappier?
I take that back, the new board lacks features...I can't even see the thread i'm replying to on the reply screen...only the individual post...Unless that's something else I have to fuck with in the profiles...
Thanks for the tip, coop...or whichever Agent told me about the colors...

Didn't you guys test this software before you haphazardly threw it into place?

Yeah, I'm an asshole.
If he's trying, he's not trying very hard...this new board is a step backwards IMHO. Didn't he test the performance of it before he installed it live on the site? Did he even use it at all? The whole switchover should have taken about 5 minutes (if that)... My biggest complaint is that the new board is slow as shit. It usually takes about 10-15 seconds to load the main index page...that's incredible considering the old board loaded the index page in less than a second.
I think the best course of action would have been to modify the old board to add the functionality you think you're getting from the new one...which is, from what i've seen, mostly cosmetic...whee! I get to put a picture of myself in!

Faster? Are you joking? It seems like it takes the DB FOREVER to load the information for the main page...I'm not talking about the rest of the pages...just the main index takes forever...
What DB is this running on, anyway? What kinda system?
My connection at home is 512k DSL, and my connection at work is an OC-3. I don't think my bandwidth is a problem.
I don't think the webserver is the problem...as I said, all the other pages load quick and dandy...I think some hacking needs to be done on wwwthreads.php, or some file included therein.
I just refreshed the page in another window: 45 seconds.
Damn.

ok chill dude...jesus christ have a lil patience. the new boards arent exactly done yet so just CHILL. i have a shitty ass modem and the new boards load alot faster for me than the old.

PGF: I care not for learning about the board. I only care for why it was used in place of a more functional solution (which was already working).
Aphex: If the front page takes so long to load with the new s/w then it seems to me that the new s/w is no longer the best solution for the job. Maybe modify the main index page so that it doesn't do all those silly queries. I can help if you don't know PHP. e-mail me if you're interested.
What limitations did the old board have (besides the fact that MySQL db's aren't meant for large-scale high-traffic environments)? It seems to me that i'm more limited with the new board...I don't care for all the frivolities that have been added...i want my functionality back!
