Anyone know good food for dehydration? * 1
    #27027424 - 11/07/20 06:59 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

I got a food dehydrator and wondered what else I can make with it. Im going to use it dry shrooms but also been thinking about making beef jerky. I can legally hunt small game all winter so I thought about making squirrel jerky and I can feed my dog with it. I need a jerky gun and a meat grinder and I could make it.

But whats your favorite food to dehydrate? I was going to try banna chips but im intrested in what you all have tried. Seeing as they dry shrooms I bet someone has the dank recipe on here.

I like to core a pineapple and then do thinly sliced pineapple rings.  Those are really good.  Strawberry slices are nice.  If you do bananas I recommend not going til theyre totally dry cuz they're way better chewy, IMO.  Not many people like papaya but I dry mine in strips and they look like yam fries... I like 'em.  I've never done jerky but your plan sounds tasty for your dog!

Enjoy your new machine.  I dry all my other goods in mine as well.  They are so much better than just a fan.  Desiccant after dehydrating and you're set for the long haul!

i originally bought my dehydrator to make biltong and still make it on a regular basis (its like jerky but you dont mince it or use a gun just cut into strips add flavourings and dry)

i put lots of thing in it - from small cherry tomatoes (cut in half) which i eat like sweets to the usual sliced fruit leathers - i also use it to make celery salt and to dry herbs from my garden.

lots of the dehydrated fruit you can buy ready done has been dipped in a sugar syrup - you can either do this yourself or omit it altogether.

Pretty much any fruit, except maybe watermelon/melons, is great for drying.

Meats of course are great for drying. Cut Veggie chips are great too.

Mangos are by far the best dehydrated fruit on the planet. They have to be sweetened, though, and I don't know the secret behind that. Some brands get it right. Some do not.
