Quick flowhood question (already made)
    #27027381 - 11/07/20 06:26 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Hey everyone quick question I finally made a flowhood and it did not come out the best looking but I did what I can and it works with no leaks lol but anyways I just started it up and held a lighter up to it but it seems to blow it out but at the bottom the flame bends and flickers but in the middle it will light for like 1 sec so my question is will a pre filter added to blower cut back on the flow? i would assume so but ya I think there is alittle to much flow.

Also would a fan speed controller do also? Cuz I use one on my inline fan for my bud gorwing

Blower: Dayton 1TDT8 Blower, 797/549 CFM, 115V 3.30/2.20A
Wood:MDF
Filter: 6in thick 12x24 hepa filter (I got it off a fungi website like a year ago just never got around to do anything with it till now)

And this is what I was pulling with a SAB in my mototubs

Yes and yes.

Was your plan to run it no pre-filter?

Certainly pre-filter to extend the life of your HEPA.

Thats true i will definitely get one lol but do u think that the pre filter is guaranteed to put me in the limit of flow needed or should i pick up a controller to be on the safe side

You can stack them to restrict flow.

Not personally. I’d just prefer to pitch them.

Always use a prefilter, but not to restrict flow.  A prefilter will keep the hair, bugs, dirt and other debris out of your expensive HEPA filter.  The prefilter will restrict flow slightly, but not enough to get the result you need.

If you need to restrict flow, simply block off part or most of the intake to your blower.  You can do this with duct tape, metal, plywood, or anything else you have.  Restricting the intake will cut down on the excess output.  Experiment until you find the sweet spot.

I actually am still having trouble on flow even with duct tape i can get it low enough but the blower starts to make a strange sound and i also tryed hooking up it to a fan controller and put it almost at the lowest setting it can go and i got the flame to bend without going out but again it makes a strange sound

Update ok so I was trying a few different things and this has worked to slow it down I had a empty amazon box laying around so i taped it up and cut a hole in it and taped 2 filters inside it stacked and then laid a peace on the outside and that got the flame to bend and not go out it flickers only a tiny bit but it dose not go out. That means i am using 4 filters stacked just to slow it down lol is my blower that oversized?

Will that do? Since i never used a flowhood the air feels so weak coming out of the filter for some reason i always thought the flow would be stronger coming out of thr filter

Also the blowrr makes a mild sound aswell i would assume do to blower overworking to pull air

If this method works legit i will scratch the Amazon box and build the top out of wood

It does need to be a strong current. It just needs to be uninterrupted and pure.

How did you pair your blower to your filter?

Edit: Does not need...

Well I sized it thru tutorials I have seen thru time

Here is the box tek i made the box off of
http://www.sporetradingpost.com/building_a_professional_flowhood.htm

Blower, 797/549 CFM, 115V 3.30/2.20A i did not think that would be to much for a 12x24

To be honest if I must buy a new blower I can but i would prefer getting this one to work lol

The formula for pairing (of which I am not expert) consists of a few more variables than just those 2 dimensions.
