Ok, according to a key to distinguishing trichoreus spcies it could be a macrogonus because it's spines are 2.5 cm or less. Any other opinions?

It might as well be an cereus. to id cactus over the internet is not good idea, even experts miss id cactuses all the time with the cactus right infront of them, its really hard to tell.

it sure looks like some trichocereus species or _hybrid_ but could be a peruvianus, a cuzcoensis or a macrogonus... but i'd guess peruvianus. it sure is no cereus that i know. congrats! it's NOT a Stetsonia coryne! =)

either macrogonous or peruvianus, i'm up in the air but i'd lean to peruvianus on first appearence but the color of the spines stays too yellow for my comfort.

I'm going to say peruvianus because macrogonus look a lot different. (regarding the macrogonus) The V notches are way more defined (deeper ridges) and they are more curvy. look similiar to a Cucumber. THe Deadly Cucumber as I call them. A second glanse at it really makes me believe its a peruvian, possibly hybrid too.

Re: Could this be a peruvian torch?
Yes it could, and very likely IS a Trichocereus peruvianus. Looks good & active! Enjoy growing it for a year or more before you chop anything from it.

Great! Thanks! So.. Naturally the next question is: is there any good growing guides around the internet that I should read? I tried to search but didn't find anything too great. I suppose I could just water it randomly and hope it to grow but I guess there are better ways to make it _big enough_.
..and sorry for my english, I'm from Finland.

I'm relatively sure that is a peruvianus, look how as it gets older the spines point up at a 45 degree angle on the right side of photo 1. The only thing that looks strange is the fuzzy white spine-pads....
The real tell tale sign of it being active though will be the taste test later when you decide to cut it... mescaline tastes absolutely terrible. You'll know pretty quickly.

I'm strongly against the cactus taste test for unknown plants.
This plant is a Trichocereus (Echinopsis) so it's okay, but Euphorbias are sold in garden centers as cacti and they contain poisonous sap.
Furthermore, I'm not really sold on the idea that you can taste potency differences.
Just my 2?.

Euphorbia's look absolutely nothing like trichocereus. Anyways, theres hundreds of poisonous plants available at garden centers, regardless if euphorbia's emit a caustic dermitoxic latex..
