What kind of mutation is this (Texas Orange Cap)
    #27026664 - 11/07/20 11:42 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

My Texas orange caps have been growing with these funny little nipples on the cap of some. Today I noticed one turning fuzzy as though it was going to fruit. What's happening? đŸ˜…

Some people like wearing hats, some mushrooms do too!

I believe it's an environmental 'mutation', my latest thought it it might be scar tissue on the cap of the mushroom from vermiculite scraping the surface as the hyphael knot develops...But that might not be a very good hypothesis and I'd like to know the answer as well!

I've had this exact issue with TOC, and in my case, the issue was a lack of FAE during fruiting. Try giving the next flush (or batch) some more airflow. When I did that, my subsequent flushes looked normal.

They're totally fine to eat, it's all mushroom. :mushroom2: No big deal!
