Those are the 3T bags with 4 qts of rye in them. They usually come out weighing a bit over 4 lbs

Weight means little to me, was more curious if they were the 8x5x19 ones from unicorn or some smaller size.

No, theyre the 8x5x19's.
Ive been fruiting in these 45qt tubs so 4 qts is plenty of spawn. The do fine in the 56qt too

Quadryder said: You know I thought I was, but this last run I have going right now I actually tamped the bags down and sort of like packed them while filling/closing them. I think this will help.
I tamp it down into the rectangle shape the bag is, align the seams, fold it once away from me with the filter facing me/ on the top, then squish all the air out and down onto the now block that is the grain in the bag. Thats basically all in one motion. After that I fold the filter facing down ontop of the block, then the rest of the bag onto itself, and tape it to hold it as shown in the pics above.
When you do this, are you folding the bag over top of the filter, or does the filter need to be unimpeded to manage any accumulated pressure in the bag? It's hard to tell form the photos.... Cheers.

I've recently started cramming a couple extra bags in there Ted! I follow this tek to get 13 - 4 lb bags, but then I can fit 2 - 2 lb bags on the bottom two layers for 15 bags total!
I like having those extra 2 lb bags to inoculate like so: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27088090
and then expanding using: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27138762/page/1
Great tek Ted!! very useful

Hey Ted!
Thx again for showing this stacking strategy. However, I am only able to get 10 bags in when doing 4 pound bags of hydrated oats.
I know you said you do rye, does that account for the difference you think? Have you done the same amount of bags with oats?
Might it just be the hydration level of your grains vs mine? Or does rye vs oats make THAT much of a size difference?
How do you prep your grain currently that you can fit that much in there?
As it stands these 10 bags are right up to the top rim. I might switch to rye if for no other reason than I could do 6 more bags per cycle between my two 75x's...
Thanks for any input/thoughts!

You gotta really squeeze them in to make 13 work but you might be able to fit 3 more on top of that if you get them flat and add a metal rack to it. Sometimes I gotta sit on my lid to make it all fit haha

Ya, rye is waaay more dense than oats. I use volume not weight to fill my bags. I use 4 qts which is usually a bit over 4 lbs but I dont weigh every one.
By the pic it looks like your pretty close. U gotta work a bit to get the lid on with the other 3 bags. Lately ive been doing 10 in each cooker just because 1 #50 bag makes 20 bags for me but when I had just 1 75x i used this method every time.
Lol, ya... i always had to sit on the lid or have a friend help me close it

Oh they are squeezed lol, they are so squeezed that I had thoughts of bursting like a pimple when I go to take them out... I had to muster up some of my manliness reserves to push things into place.

NOTED! THX!
I will take a look around my area and see if I can find some rye for when I run out of these last 10 bags of oats. Done lots of grain types but never ran into cost effective rye options in my area. However you are right, 10 bags in each cooker is a nice way to keep the math simple and knock out one 50 pound bag of grain per cycle which is what I am currently squeezing in with oats, but I would like to give rye a whirl.
Any other characteristics you like about/prefer rye for besides density? How are the hulls compared to oats' semi-bullet proof ones? How about the water retention/absorption level comparing it to oats as well?
FYI even at 10 bags vs 13 it's still more than I've ever packed in there before so it's a winner regardless. Thanks again!
