* Habitat What kind of trees were nearby? What was it growing from? wood chips, see pic above. Unclear which trees. Growing from the ground * Location Where in the world was it? King County WA * Gills What do they look like? Always try to take photos that show the gills of both young and mature mushrooms. seeing bluish/black bruising * Stem Carefully dig it out of the ground so you can get a picture of the whole thing. * Spore print color (if you have time) Too small, unable to get a spore print * Scent of the mushroom. * Color that the mushroom bruises when damaged. Blue * Anything else you might find important;
Hey kids, new guy here. Pretty sure I found some baby cyans in King County. I have confirmation from one experienced person, I'd like to have a 2nd and 3rd opinion.. Couple notes/questions too if someone has time!
1.) First time hunter/picker - I've eaten cubensis before but I have no experience eating anything from the wild. TBH, i'm pretty nervous about eating wild mushrooms. Thinking of just eating a tiny piece. Any words of encouragement or discouragement? Can you have an adverse reaction from a very micro dose? Will a tiny amount make a noticeable buzz? 2.) Unable to get a spore print because they're too small (very exposed in a children's park. i figured they wouldn't last long)
Thank you!

Pretty certain those are all cyans, small but nice!
To answer some questions for you. It is never a good idea to ingest unknown mushrooms, however, you can absolutely nibble and spit. The amount needed to consume to be active is in the ball park of 1.5-3g for ps cyanescens i believe so one little piece isn't going to do a thing even if it was deadly. Even deadly galerina aren't as deadly as people think though I would NEVER advise consuming, just stating it takes quite a few to actually be deadly.
The key here is the blue bruising, it should be very prominent and from the pics it seems thats the case.

Really appreciate the feedback. I figured that might be the case about miniscule doses. I will continue to read/evaluate much more until i go for it haha
Are there scenarios where larger/grown Cyans are contaminated or spoiled? Meaning, is it safe to eat the ones that don't necessarily look picture perfect? There were a few more mature ones in that patch, however they looked kinda beat up and ugly

I'd say once they turn black and start to shrivel and the cap is breaking apart severely and they fall apart easily toss them, everything pictured looks A Ok for me to eat. if they're at that stage where they seem like they are almost too far gone, and will be done for while drying you can make a tea. But it's usually safer to toss them!
Everything pictured looks great though.
