When I sterilize my 1/2 pint jars like the How To guides ask. Do I have to use a pressure cooker? Or can I just boil them in water. Please feel free to call me stupid but im just a noob on my way to the top. :-D

If you can not find a pressure cooker use a big pot with a lid and steam it only using 1 inch of water at the bottom for 1.5 hours. You may have to add a little water during the process.

Yes, you can steam them. Make sure you have a double layer of foil over the lids to prevent excess moisture from getting into the jar. Also be careful that the jars don't touch the water or sides of the pot or they might crack.

They can sit in the water but make sure it dosen't boil up over the tops of the jars. You can put a little towel or something in the bottom of the pot so the jars aren't sitting directly on the pot.

I have a related question:

In the PF tek, it says "Put the jars into the pot with the lid bands loose so that the steam can penetrate the jars quickly." I thought that would be too much moisture for the insides of the jars, but maybe I just don't understand what they're saying.

you do leave the lid rings loose or "finger tight" as they say. But a covering over the entire lid should be placed, especially if innoc holes were and probably are made.
