Hi now it’s got me thinking it is, by this post she’s magic and might contain psilocybin, https://www.trufflemagic.com/what-magic-mushrooms-grow-in-the-uk/
If it is so, what would you do with this one dry it and test a gram?

If you ask me that is a very nice cluster of Gymnopilus dilepis.

Isn't native but grows in woodchip, uncommonly.

Active due to the green stains. Could you check the cheilocystidia shape?

Is that the shape of the stem or a cell sample on a slide under a microscope. I don’t own a microscope, so I can revisit tomorrow, just give me some directions to follow.

Having done a little reading on the history of both species where I'm at is I was cocky, once, and we're looking at the squatness or lankiness of cheilocystidia and possibly pigmentation in fresh cells at different ages, so the fresher the material the better.

Here's a reference to some terms you'll need to know, especially when the mycologists give advice.... sometimes they forget we are but mere mortals in the lands of the greats and dont all have degrees in biology or microscopes

Cheilocystidia are best seen with a microscope at 400x magnification. Ideally with a crush mount. Gymnopilus dilepis will have cheilocystidia that is not capitate (with a ball at the apex) while many of the other lookalike species do have capitate cheilocystidia.
Perhaps Joie can check the microscopy for you.
I can probably run the DNA.

Thanks Alan yes Ive sent a sample to Joie for microscopy, how can you run the DNA would you need a living specimen?

The material arrived yesterday, well wrapped but because of transit time it was very sweaty! I have been looking for a gill edge on the present section let alone cheilocystidia but I am thankful to have it, ftr, and persevering.

Took ages to arrive, have you been able to observe any of the spores?

Dodgy microscopyRme. Well...

I haven't calibrated/measured, just before I go out I don't want to leave these bits sitting here today without an update. I'll keep on in a bit if need be. You can see a white contaminant as well. My opinion is if we're seeing cheilocystidia in any of these they are not really bobbly cheilocystidia and might indeed be G. dilepis. Alan, I possibly have no clue pls help!
