What is going on here?  Dude was in my sand casing for tamps thread asking about if it would work for hoogs, which I have no idea.  Now we're adding it to sub for cubes (I'm guessing since that's what most folks are growing in this thread).  WTF?  All that said, I have added sand to tamp sub.

Sorry, i mean as casing for hogshagenii sub sub. If you sawmy semper struggles in relation to my posts on sand, the context is clear.

Let me share some pics. Thank you for your interest and replies.

No sign of primordia or knotting.
Using glass container to watch what it's doing.

Coir verm

Coir/garden soil:

It's been blobbing and not fruiting for me, and several people have suggested peat, garden soil, and finally, sand.

For me, it would not pin with verm/coir/soil, so moving on to sand and peat.

The reason I'm talking about heat treating us because I just took some sand from a local playground.

Alot of random sources suggest that simple short boil will suffice, but many grows I've read uses pausterized casing

Today I'm casing a top fruiting SV har with boiled sand

I've had two very nice tubs mold out after blobbing on coir/verm, 2-3 weeks into fruiting conditions, before first flush.

It's missing something

I thought he was talking about tamps.

I used sand on cubes once

Meh. Had no reason to do it again.

Dude asked about casing hoogs in here so I sent him your way and told him to find out for himself if it works for said species.

Yeah, I suggested potting soil as a casing as appears hoogs prefer a more clay/mud soil according to wiki.  I don't have any experience with them so couldn't offer any practical input.  That said, we need to speak clearly and say what we mean, otherwise we get the above and people start thinking sand should be added to cube sub or eggs should be added to taco seasoning.

Honestly? Taco flavored eggs don't sound horrible.

I thought I was clear enough with what I meant.

You were...I wasn't directing my statement at you.  I was making a general statement, but referring to small talk, who, in a mainly cube thread was talking about adding sand to sub.  As such, you then get other members thinking the topic is adding sand to cube sub, when in fact, small talk was actually thinking of casing, not sub and using it on hoogs, not cubes...confusing, huh?  That's why I said it's important to speak clearly and say what we mean, not say shit and expect others to know what we're talking about based on comments made a few pages back or in a completely different thread.

Couple of noob questions:

How important is temps? My apartment is 68-71- should I be worried about my monotub? If so. What am I looking for to control temps? I have heard reptile pads but don’t know how to control the heat on those. If I stack tubs, should I have multiple pads?

Also, my monotub is unmodified and I want to have a few more. Will I have higher yield if I add fresh air and if so how is the best way to add fae?

Also, what’s the best tek for hydrating/sterilizing/inoculating rye berries?

Don't heat the tubs, if you must, heat the room with a small space heater.

Heat pads are outdated and can cause more problems than they fix.

68 of perfect imo.

They can even grow down into the 40s albeit slowly

:whathesaid:

Also, I’m pretty sure flipping the lids on your unmodified tubs provides the necessary FAE

I could never get a good balance between humidity and fae in an unmodded tub.

Look up pinpornproducer's wheat prep, should do well with rye as they are very similar

Yes. Point is there are a lot of ways to do it.

My method is soak at rt for 12 hrs, boil for 10 to 15 minutes, drain and let dry untill they feel completely dry on the outside. Then load into jars and pc.

Hey guys just a heads up go-to walmart there selling the insta pot I use for my agar for $49 instead of $100. I use it for tools and agar work... Instead of firing up a pc. You just use the timed insta pot.
