I'm definitely going to do this whenever I get my own place. Great idea, thank you for the guidance.

I'm thinking grain spawn into HWFP in bags could be a practical approach to crank em out without boxes or beds. Just colonize in time and then place outside with tops cut off in vool weather.

Sounds like your old friend understood and knew you needed some cheering up.

This whole project is damn poetic.

Is there anything you would do differently given you have probably learned some new things over the last 10 years?

Such a good post.
I have the spawn and the wood, time to get cracking.
I am hardiness zone 5 or 6, so fingers crossed!

I'd love to get a patch of these going but I'm in zone 5 and our weather is too unpredictable here. This past winter we had a 10 day stretch of -35F and 40+" of snow. The winter prior I played golf in January wearing just a light jacket and our summers regularly hit 100F. I'll have to stick to temporary cube patches until I relocate. Thanks for sharing, it gives me something to look forward to!

I'm satisfied with how it went. After the initial work, its been nothing but gardening.

This is exactly the type of guide I was looking for thanks! I have a question; when you feed the garden bed, does it have to be freshly bought wood chips or can it be wood chips from local areas?

I have a whole bunch from a local park where they chopped down about 15 trees. I plan to soak them for fermentation then I'll use that for my spawn. Do the chips for the outdoor bed also need to be fermented?

What's the difference between freshly bought and freshly cut, freshly cut will be better.

When you buy them I assume they've been treated in some way?

Well you've inspired me. Can't wait to spread the spores. Asante, as you also live in the Netherlands, you've mentioned around the end of October is the time of the year you see fruits. Are there other periods where you've observed fruits? Apart from the garden I intend to make a massive guerilla patch in the local "forest"
