Humidity & Temp tracking device

Hello fellow mycologists,
First of a big thanks to you all, I've been lurking around here for years as a guest slowly gathering info and piecing together a system that works for me. I recently decided to step it up and move into a greenhouse and thought what better time to become a bit more involved in the Shroomery side of things too.
I'm still in the process of dialing in my greenhouse setup and will post more on that when I'm 100% happy with how it's all going but for now thought I'd make a quick post about a product I came across while online shopping... I hope someone out there finds it as useful as I have...
The main device is an Ecowitt GW1000...this reads room temp, air pressure and humidity and acts as a gateway for additional sensors (they have a bunch of different ones. I also got a WH31 temp and humidity sensor which sits in my greenhouse. I paid $68 AUD for both on Amazon.
Once setup it streams both the room and greenhouse details to a website and updates every 5 minutes resulting in a graph like this....

As I'm also using smart timers for my fan and humidifier so if I see the RH has dropped too low I can power up my USH until I reach the desired level again... no mater where I am in the world Seems pretty acurate too checking against my other hydrometer.

Haha true! Not too many worries about the other side of the world right now....can't even leave my state at the moment...on the plus side lockdown has given me the time to get onto this project

You don't need it whether it works or not, and for $68 it probably doesn't work accurately. Mushrooms like the same room temperature you do and the humidity microclimate is created in the fruiting chamber.

Yeah it's probably not for everyone, but for me it's been priceless in tuning my greenhouse's FAE and USH timings.
Accuracy so far seems pretty good, is very quick to update and I'm not so much worried about temps as RH. Are you saying you don't need to check humidity in your greenhouse?
Also greenhouse is in my garage / workshop which is more exposed to the weather than it would be inside a house. I live in a drier semi desert climate and during summer it can get over 40C and below 5C in one day so to be able to get an alert that RH is low (say when it's hot and windy) and be able to turn my USH on remotely seems to me like a pretty handy tool.

ECOWITT ACCURACY TESTING
To avoid anyone having to make unsupported assumptions, I decided to get sciencey do some comprehensive testing and provide the data so you can all make a more informed decision on accuracy…here’s how they went…
Outdoor RH Test
In this test I simply put the sensor outside in a shady spot and compared data from the sensor to that of nearby weather stations. • Out of greenhouse at 98% • After 4 min had dropped to 58% then fluctuated between 58% and 59% for a further 20 min • Closest weather stations were reporting between 53% and 60% • Temp showed at 14.1C – weather stations showing between 13.5 to 14.9 Salt Test
Apparently not the best calibration method but a test none the less, by all accounts the resulting RH should be 75%. • Added ½ cup salt and ¼ cup water into a small plastic container • Put small container and sensor into a larger plastic container and left for 6 hours • Started at 62%, up to 70% after 30 min, 75% after an hour, briefly peaked at 76% before dropping to 75% again. Dipped briefly to 72% then fluctuated between 73% and 75% for the remaining time ending up on 74% after the full 6 hours.
Wet Towel Test
In this test an accurate hygrometer should hit 100% RH after being wrapped in a wet (not dripping wet) towel for an hour. • Wrapped in wet towel and left for an hour • Started at 73%, after 30 min 90%, after an hour 96%.
Paper Towel Test
Pretty much the same as above except using paper towel… figured I’d come this far may as well check it off too. • Allowed it to drop to an inside RH of 42%, wet the paper towel and wrapped it up again • It moved up quicker with the paper towel hitting 97% in 20 min and then fluctuating between there and 98%. *edit* after posting this it hit 99%
Conclusion
Seems to be reporting RH slightly lower than expected but I’m pretty happy with the results overall and it seems I can get a pretty decent idea of the live GH conditions. The RH drops are much quicker to report which is the main thing for my requirements. There is an option to calibrate it digitally but I’m going to leave it as is and know I could probably add 1% to the readings.

I’ll run all these tests again in a month or so and see how they compare but for now it’s going back in the GH.
