Are my Sclerotia jars ready for harvest?
    #27022084 - 11/04/20 06:40 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

This is my first time growing sclerotia. I used this tek https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17910649 . I inoculated two jars at two different dates because I was short on rye berries. I inoculated the jars using wedges from an P. Galandoi agar dish I had.

This jar I knocked up on April 23 2020.

The entire jar colonized pretty quickly, but there isnt much sclerotia growth that I can see. Its been almost seven months and in the last few months, I havent really seen much of a change. Should I open it and try to harvest? Can I use some of the mycelium from this jar to knock up another jar? Or is that pointless if there isnt much sclerotia growth in it?

The second jar I knocked up on May 11 2020 after I got more rye berries.

This jar didnt fully colonize but the growth looked a lot better on this one. I could actually see sclerotia. In the last few weeks I started to see some moisture forming near the uncolonized part. Is it myc piss or a contam? Should I leave this jar a little longer, toss it or should I try to harvest it? Can I use some mycelium from this jar to knock up more jars or is that a bad idea?

The second jar looks terrible I’d be afraid to eat anything out of that and I can’t really see defined stones in the first jar either
They both look really bacterial

What stones should look like with that age of jar

The second jar did look a lot better a week ago. I thought I could see some truffles forming near the top but thats probably just my wishful thinking.

Do you harvest stones based on time or look/feel?
