Birthing before full colonization?
    #27016216 - 11/01/20 06:53 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

So my jars are 65 - 70% colonized.

I have been tracking their growth every 2 days.

The last 7
days they havent hardly grown at all and are kind of coming to a stand still.

I want to birth all the Mycelium that did grow before it stalled out. Is it alright to birth it in-vitro  before its fully colonized?

I already have more than a full pint jar worth of mycelium so Im not worried about yields, my mistake was using 32 ounce jars that got a bit tight towards the bottle with substrate making it hard for the poor mycelium to breath and its more humid towards the lower half, Id imagine.

Anything is possible! You’ll want to be extra careful because there may be parts of your mycelium that are vulnerable to contamination since it didn’t have the chance to consolidate. Whether or not you want to risk the time and effort is up to you. If it has stalled though, the longer you leave it standing the higher chance something else will begin growing in there.

Appreciate the feedback. Its fully colonized on the top so I imagine nothing is gonna get in. I have a bag over it to prevent too much contams

I do this most often when i feel myc is ready around 70% of surface and she will colonize the rest in fruiting. If i have patience time and space i will wait untill fully colonized. Keep in mind im totally new to this but it works for me

Quarts are not typically used for PF cakes.

:whathesaid: and why? Because they stall.

Top fruiting the jars is an option. You "can" birth, wash off the uncolonized portion, and fruit, but it's not the most common practice for cakes.
