Is this mold or myc on agar?
    #27021561 - 11/04/20 02:10 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

This is my first attempt at agar, I know that the green patches are contaminated and I will be throwing this out but I’m curious if the fuzzy white patches are myc.

I would take a transfer from the 11:00 position to another agar dish and grow it out to see for sure what you have, it could possibly be cobweb mold.

For context this is albino penis envy spores from a syringe, I screwed up trying to do a single drop and squeezed out a bit to much from what I’ve read. I have 6 other plates and they all have these patchy white fuzz growing, if that makes any difference. Also from what I’ve read it doesn’t have any off smell I do get a hint of the mush smell but my nose could be playing tricks on me

I will make a transfer from one of the other plates.

All those spots I marked are cube myc. The rest is obvious mold.

For spore syringes, the thinner the needle the better, 21G is what I use.
It makes it a lot easier to control the amount of liquid you squirt. So Next time get yourself a thinner needle and you'll see a huge difference.

Vendor syringes usually come with a thick 18g needle and the purpose of this is none other than making it very difficult for people to just squirt a single drop, so you empty the syringe fast and buy another syringe from them soon.

It's all biz.

Im personally more confident in the transparent stuff in the center than the clouds of puff on the edges.

You're welcome, a suggestion if you haven't already came across this before but you can look into using an inoculation loop to spread a droplet from your spore syringe which would leave less chance of alot of water being placed on the agar plate.
