Sawdust Blocks Too Wet
    #27021258 - 11/04/20 11:22 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

I have 2 Pink Oysters blocks colonizing nicely in Master's Mix. When I hydrated the pellets, it seemed too wet (based on what I've researched) but I followed the directions on the bag and went with it.

My bags are sealed with filters but there is a ton of moisture in the bags and even sitting water in places. I'm pretty positive that they're way over-saturated.

They're both about 60% - 75% colonized I'd say and I don't see any contam yet but they seemed to have slowed down.

Would it be a bad idea to poke some holes or cut some slits in the bags now, before full colonization, so they can release some moisture?

I did the exact same thing with my last batch of masters mix blocks. I just let them sit.. and sit.. and sit.. and they eventually all fully colonized with no issues at all. Might wanna keep them in a doff spot than other blocks just in case they invite contamination but patience is your friend with this issue. 👍

I guess I forgot to actually answer the question though. If it was like, a shit ton of excess water floating in the bag Id say you could prob poke a hole, drain it super fast and then reseal quickly, preferably in am SAB or in front of your hood.. but if its just really wet and you have a little pooling Id just wait it out.  Good luck!

You can poke a hole in the bottom of the bag and let the extra water drain out.  I always put a hole on the bottom when I do buckets to let it out if there's extra.
