Liberty Caps ID request please
    #27018618 - 11/03/20 02:34 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I'm pretty sure that these are all Libs, but I would really appreciate confirmation from a Trusted Identifier if anyone out there would be so kind.

Found yesterday in my usual spot in Kent, UK - a wild meadow, no grazing animals.

Apologies that the gill shot was taken after drying out.

Many thanks indeed for your help

I don't agree but a better res pic might help, and whichever one of us is wrong has to give everything they have to the other one.

Hi Doc and Joie

This has taught me to definitely upload fresh pics in future, but to help settle this dispute I've attached a few more pics that I've just taken of that particular specimen, the largest in the batch (which has now had about 32 hours drying time) :

My gut feeling is leaning towards P. semilanceata, but the pictures don't show enough detail.

OP, next time could you please take some pictures of the mushrooms in their habitat, preferably also before you pick them?
Pictures taken indoors with a phone camera like this aren't really enough for sufficient identification.

OK so I just found these weird looking things about 90 minutes ago, in the same spot. Are these all 'sterile' libs and should I discard them?

Thank you for any advice you'd care to offer on this.

Then as I was leaving, I went to pick this guy but the stem snapped pretty much as soon I touched it. So I decided to discard it. Looking at this photo now though, I think it was probably a perfectly fine Lib :

Last photo is a liberty cap. The stems will snap easily when they are or have been waterlogged.
The pictures in your previous post look like "sterile" liberty caps, they are pale because of low
to no spore production. You can confirm by checking for the thin separable gelatinous pellicle.

Be aware that some species of Mycena, that have white gills, and also has a pellicle, but they don't look like these.

Wow thank you for the instant reply Anglerfish!

Yeah I've noticed quite a few posts from people on here finding these sterile libs. OK, I'll return these badboys to nature ASAP.

Cheers

I agree with Psilocybe semilanceata,  I can see it much better in the second set of pictures
