Went to my normal spot today in the New Forest, ok a week ago not 1 lib today, but there was signs it had been picked over, loads of lbm's picked and left all over. Went to a new spot and found some within 5 mins from the car, didn't have much time there and loads were really small so left them. Going to wait a couple of days as rain tomorrow, and at last the night temps are below 10, so hopefully that will get them fruiting. So if your going hunting in the New Forest in the next couple of days, leave them they are mine LOL

Anyone getting any large finds in low altitude areas in the northwest of England? I am only currently finding large amounts of liberty caps at the highest altitudes near me at the moment. Only just got back into shroom picking after a 10 year break and all my previously fruitful locations aren't yielding anything at present.

things change, I've defo learnt that as my previously fruitful spots have yielded a poor amount this year. I don't bother looking at lower levels, but that mushroom map reckons there are spots in lower lying ground near me..?

Is the season shifting a bit due to generally warmer temperatures and increased rainfall etc? It has rained here now constantly for practically 2 weeks straight. I suspect there has been too much rainfall coupled with reasonable warm temperatures and that we might see some more liberty caps popping up once the rain holds off a bit, everywhere is so waterlogged.

Thanks! I feel like I've just wasted the last few weeks looking in the same area expecting them to get going by now and it's just not happening.

ok haul had wee panic when heard may have short, sharp frost tonight so got me skates on as planned to be out wed-fri based on earlier weather forecasts

i'm still leaning towards it slowing down my way but saw more fellow pickers today so can't discount just missing the boat in my preferred spots.
so had to stretch my legs to find more ground and found at least one honey (s)pot by a wall with beautiful flushes, whilst it was quite sporadic and tatty in more general surrounds. either lovely micro-climate or just missed by my fellow shroomerites and rivals

We've woken up to a bit of a frost in Kent this morning. I believe it reached zero degrees in the early hours. Does this mean it's the end of the season already?!

not necessarily - tend to need longer cold spell
but prob not worth heading out today IME, they'll still be some but frost can damage any that have grown (they're >90% water after all) and they can sort of disintegrate / "melt" as defrost
night time temps look to go back up for next couple of weeks so I'll probably head out again from Fri and have a look to see if still out

First find this season after some searching high and low, luckily local this time too. I feel 90% confident that these are all libs but could do with a positive id just in case.

Just found these about 90 minutes ago - are they all 'sterile' Libs and should I discard them?

I also found this guy but the stem snapped as soon as I touched it, so I decided to leave it where it was. I'm thinking now it was probably a perfectly OK Lib :

They are all sterile/sporeless/albino spored (who knows which) libs. Nice find!
The one that snapped are also a liberty cap.

Just to clarify then - are these sterile Libs inactive (i.e. contain no psilocybin) or are they still worth consuming?
Cheers

Cheers ShroomAnon.
The sun was still out and hardly a cloud in the sky when I finished work at 4pm so I couldn't resist a quick stroll down to the Meadow Of Truth. Had to work fast before the sun set though!
