Trichocereus Chiloensis x Pachanoi MOnstrose * 2
    #27020701 - 11/04/20 04:23 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

I have a bunch of different trichocereus hybrids, several of them monstrose. These are my favorite because they have such variability. Not only do they differ from each other, they morph completely over time. The single cactus is one of the cooler crested patterns that formed. The other picture shows one with an almost penis-plant-like form as well as some more traditionally crested specimens in the background. Sometimes they start off with that penis-plant-like tip and turn more into something like the single. I figured I would share something a bit different.

Very nice! I got the same feels for a TPM x Sharxx Blue thats crestate and monstrose  yea it morphs over time too. The proportion of monstrose vs crestate effects varies locally, if a cutting is taken that starts relatively normally or semi-monstrose, cresting comes at a delay and full on monstrose growth takes longer to see the effects of.

I guess cresting and full monstrose growth contradict each other a bit at least in the sense that monstrose growth is a dramatic loss of apical dominance yielding a large degree of randomness but cresting is a cheaty way of giving at least the appearance of local dominance.
Hopefully there are ways to choose the right cutting at the right time to get it to lean towards say cresting, for as long as possible?

In any case, I love the penis cactus sorta stuff xD but at the same time, bit of a shame it can't keep it up...

Will take me a while to get a majestic crest like yours <3

They're actually all from seed. They look grafted, but it isn;t

And I agree it is bittersweet to see the penis stuff disappear. But it is also kinda cool the degree they change.
