Selection strategy
    #27019133 - 11/03/20 10:54 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

This is mycelium of a wild shaggy mane, third transfer.
It looks like a sponge or foam, there are no areas with strong growth and no thread-like hyphae running from center outwards:

What would be your strategy of selection for further transfers?
Or should I not bother with it?

Mushroome people all too busy fantasizing about civil war today to answer you.  I'm an AGAR noob and into Gourmet.  I am interested in what an expert will say to your question.  I have some stuff growing that looks like this as well.  All the "cool" looking agar pics are all cubes though and I'm thinking that other species may have a different look when things are going well.

It appears to look fine to me. You do not get strong rizo growth on gourmets.

Well, shouldn't it be similar to oysters, where you can see almost straight lines from center outwards, maybe not pronounced as in magics, but still straight thread-like hyphae is visibly present. Here, on the other hand, nothing.

Every species will have a different look. Cubes have that strongly rhizomorphic look and oysters will have a very pronounced growth.

Shiitake turns brown after consolidating.. lions mane looks like misty-fog.

ive never grown shaggy mane but i trust Quadmans assessment.

This is one of the plates from 4th transfer. It started to show nice straight sectors:

No sponginess on 12-1 o'clock.
There is also fast growing part on 6 o'clock.
Should I probably select both 12 (for niceness) and 6 (for speed) o'clocks?

The plate grew to this:

Looks almost like oysters now.

On the opposite side, 2 plates from the same transfer stalled, going to discard them:
