Alternative CVG tek: cooking coco coir separately?

Dear shroomerites,
In most CVG teks, people often put coco coir, vermiculite and gypsum in one big bucket, pour boiling water on it and mix it, sometimes they heat it using a second bucket with water or in the over during about 30 minutes or 1 hour. I understood that the point was to cook coir, because it breaks it down and makes it easier for the mycelium to digest.
However, for me I found it was hard to do this tek because at home I only have pots that are a little bit too small, and it is very hard to mix it without making a mess.
I was wondering if the following is a valid CVG tek: 1. Pour enough water in a pot, add coco coir. 2. Keep it boiling for 20-30 minutes to cook the coir. 3. In a big plastic box (for example, an unused monotub), put the vermiculite and the gypsum, add the cooked coir. 4. Add water until you reach field capacity while mixing thoroughly with your hand.
What do you think about it?
Thanks!

I'm not sure to understand what you mean by "skipping" the verm and gypsum, the point of CVG is to mix them with coco coir and water, right?

Hehe okay that's indeed what I understood in the first place. I never heard about doing this, is the coir alone able to hold enough moisture for the mycelium to develop?

Okay. For the people reading this thread in the future: here is a tek mentioning using only coir. (I already read it in the past, but I didn't remember the "only coir" part...)
I guess it answers my question: if we can use only coir, then it should be perfectly acceptable to cook it separately
