The OG psycho naught discussion 1

Here let’s talk about the original spiritual and psycho naught teachers. Ram Dass, Timothy Leary, and ect. I watched one Ram Dass documentary and it changed me. I’m now watching “dying to know” On Gaia ( Gaia is a app with some very interesting videos) this thread is to talk about these great men and their philosophies. Ram Dass was gay? I don’t really care because his insight and love for people is great but it was just one of those “I knew it.” Moments when watching this doc. Thanks 🙏🏼

They have been used by cultures for thousands of years, Leary and Dass jumped on an already moving train.

Although that is true, I think OP meant OG as reference to the western "American/Canadian/British/ETC" originals which Ram Dass and Leary were, in a sense.
Albert Hoffman is in that category too. He, I believe, was a link between the psychonaut and the "researcher" as he ended up being both. Most of the people in the field seem to be one or the other.
Some other notable names (of which the first two were researchers/psychologists rather than psychonauts):
Stanislav Grof Leo Zeff Aldous Huxley Alan Watts (Although more of a spiritual teacher than a "psychonaut") Terrence Mckenna (Considered by many the "father" of the psychonauts, although he came much later than most of these).
Nonetheless, they were all at the center of the movement between the late 50s through the late 70s (at which point everything was illegal although some, like Stanislav Grof, continued to have permission to study certain chemicals).

I love that they are mostly graduates or even teachers at some of the most prominent colleges in the west. So people can’t make the argument they were just some hippies. They were some of the most brilliant minds. Then tried to spread the knowledge that their is something to these mushrooms, lsd, and mescaline.

Check out
How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan
There's some interesting history in there about these western psychedelic pioneers.
And if you're interested in Ram Dass, I'd recommend his books, especially Still Here: Embracing Aging, Changing and Dying.

I can't understand a word he says, that microphone sounds like its inside his teeth. I need to read up on him since I don't know all that much about his role in the psychedelic movement.

I enjoyed the video. I see he’s a number guy. I’ve been taking these medicines trying to find financial stability. I’m asking the universe. I’m not asking to be rich but just comfortable and the people I love being comfortable as well.

Imo Leary ruined it for everyone, I am pretty sure Nixon had referred to him by name. If he had kept his experiments solely experiments i think all psychedelics would still be legal.
I'm not a fan of Leary, or Nixon
Edit: I like Aleister Crowley because he started a psychedelic commune, which is what I would do if I could, but what he did was so intense, he told some people that they should keep eating acid until they were no longer afraid of anything.

Crowley was a total weirdo I’m sorry but have you read that book on him? They have a audio version of it on YouTube. It’s interesting but insane.

Oh I know he was a wack job but gotta admit he was committed to being that way.
Ken Kesey, I would say is my actual favorite. Or Hofmann himself, living to be 102 and microdosing most of his life. That's a good life.

I've always really enjoyed listening to Alan Watts. Just because he articulated my tripping brain into words that I could never find a way to puzzle them together.

I’m honestly slowly discovering all these different people that have been around for some time. I’m gonna look into Alan Watts

Alan Watts has a really nice way with words and he is great at introducing Eastern philosophies to people who, like me, knew nothing about them. There is definitely a link with psychedelics as well as a tool to facilitate experiencing the states referenced in ancient eastern practices and theologies.
I also cannot recommend Huxley enough; The Doors of Perception is a great and short book where he his first mescaline trip into words, like an extremely well-presented trip report.

I’m definitely gonna check his work out. I’ve been thinking about India and I think Hinduism has a lot to do with mushrooms. Their gods look very trippy and they kinda worship the cow. Mushrooms grow from cow dung 🤔

Don't forget , I've always considered him a classic modern psychonaught.
"You can go as far as your fucking courage will take you!"; he was like a motivational speaker for psychedelics lol.
