Contam check (picture)

I am pretty sure this is contamination. It started though after the mycelium had fully colonized the corn. Got a few questions.

How did it get contaminated?
Doesnt the mycelium protect against contam?
Does leaving fully colonized jars out lead to contamination like this?

Thanks

Questions about your questions.

What do you mean by "left out"?

Mycelium can protect... if it is fully colonized, and if it can fight off the other rivals to the food source, aka bacteria/mold/etc.

Is that water sitting at the bottom of your jar? Thats definately something thats really wrong with the whole jar i can tell right off the bat. How long had it been colonized... did you try shaking that jar at all during the time it was colonizing, to speed up colonization?

By left out I just meant didnt do anything with it. I did shake the jars twice to speed up colonization. It has taken close to 2 weeks to fully colonize. Now that I looked at the jars again yes there is free flowing water inside the jars.

yeah, free flowing water = bad. sorry dude . Did you take into account the ammount of water of innoc + water needed to hydrate the substrate? It looks like you might have just added a little too much to begin with, or didnt take into account the ammount of water in innoculation.
