No worries.

If you put enough google mapping and footwork into this, you'll find them. And once you find them, you'll know how to look for them and will be able to find them anywhere. Keys: urban areas, with wood-chipped landscaping. Shopping centers with big parking lots and high foot traffic. Look for the most shaded areas there. North side of buildings. Trees. University campuses, courthouses, churches.

Wow! That iNaturalist app is phenomenal. How long after today’s rain should I wait to go hunt? In gonna have to drive about an hour away to hit up some of these spots and want to optimize my chances of success.

This thread is for found actives. However, I will say, if you are an hour north of Sacramento, I bet you can find some very close to you. Just get out and hunt every chance you get.

Gotta take the dog for a walk?- Be huntin
Gotta go to the store? Why not walk there and hunt along the way?
Bored and sick of the lockdown? Go for a bike ride around town, and HUNT!!
Oh and google maps is your friend for finding large wood chip patches...

I'd wait about 2-3 days since the rain, but were apparently supposed to limit discussion of weather here for some reason.

It's just to prevent the thread from cluttering up with pages of weather talk. It may be relevant now, but in future years when people want to reference this thread it just gets in the way.

Few more pics of a patch that will never be touched by human hands. Spread them spores. :yesnod:

Great patch Ran-D but why won’t it be touched? Is it your private patch? You don’t want any?

Oh man today ruled!!
I set a new personal record and discovered five new patches in one day! Three allenii and two cyanescens patches in the South Bay. Normally I'd wait about three to five days after a good rain to search for new spots, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to go out on my day off anyways. I try to hunt without any expectations, ever, but today I was blown away. The bay area is booming, go look as soon as you can! I collected a good amount today, but ill be returning to collect the masses of mature fruitbodies this weekend.
Here's some highlights from this afternoon. Happy hunting everyone!

Those landscaped patches, my goodness.

Still a bit dry in my neck.

Best little find.

It's not at my house but yea you could call it private. I don't really have any need for them at this point in my life, I'm just happy to see them thrive and spread spores.

Found a few Psilocybe cyanescens in Oakland, in an irrigated office complex.  The other office complexes nearby that didn't have the irrigation turned on lacked mushrooms.

Biggest find personally ever. Only picked half of them and gonna let the pins grow for another 3 or 4 days . San Ramon. Damn they are potent when fresh.
One patch was Allenii and the other Cyans. Correct me if I'm wrong. Found both today and ate new spots. A gardener asked me what I was doing, so I told him collecting magic mushrooms. Then asked him if he wanted one , which he accepted,  then proceeded to tell him their used in religous ceremonies to get in touch with God , and not to eat them unless your at home with nothing to do for 12 hrs. Then he let me pick a few more then I left .

Got some things poppin off in santa rosa. First wild actives I've ever found. That was easier than i figured it might be. Beginners luck, maybe. It isn't the first spot i looked, but damn near. And it is actually the first spot i ever considered looking. A well irrigated little office complex just up the road from where I'm staying. I scoped it out as a potential spot earlier in the year when i gave a family member a ride to and from an office there.
I left a few behind and there were some more pins coming in. Feels good to have a known patch, and so close by. It's kinda crazy to realize these fuckers were all around me growing up and i had no idea. I know one thing I'm definitely doing every time i'm back in the Bay Area in the winter

Myco and Zen, love the pics.

New spot in Berkeley from today. I've been seeing more allenii than Hypholoma, Leratiomyces, etc. Gotta love it.

Hey. Uhhh, are you sure about that? Haven't seen anyone else chime in and those certainly look like galerina in my opinion in pics 2 and 3. Be careful out there, you can die.
