This particular area fruits over about 10' x 20'. I deliberately brought home some of the myceluim wood chips so I could do some home growing.
Also, thanks

Myco and Zen, love the pics.
New spot in Berkeley from today. I've been seeing more allenii than Hypholoma, Leratiomyces, etc. Gotta love it.

Found one lil solo allenii yesterday....not much but it’s a good sign. I took the little guy into the lab to try and pull a clone plate off it.

Nice find ZenZone! Stoked to see the central valley starting up. Killing it in the East Bay too Breeg89. I scored a bonus harvest on my way up to a buddy's place in San Francisco yesterday. South city cyans!

New to the hobby and found my first ever patch! Spent all day searching Walnut Creek and Berkeley yesterday with no luck, but stumbled upon these guys not 10 mins from my house! Found in the Dublin/Pleasanton region.
98% sure these are Alenni, can I get someone to confirm? I’m new at this.

Greetings fellow psychonauts and mushroom enthusiasts. I am a northern CA native (an hour north of Sacramento)... I’m too far away to have close access to the Bay Area (about 2 hours each way to the bay) to go hunting regularly. Last year I went hunting several times, but had no luck finding actives. I was trying to find a mushroom hunting excursion to go on this fall/early winter in hopes to learn how to ID some cyans or Allenii. Unfortunately because of the nonsense lockdown, all the ones I’m aware of aren’t happening this year. Can anyone point me in the direction of any such mushroom focused hunting excursions or mycology groups I can join or something.
Thanks!

Can I ask what part of Central Valley? I’m a hour north of Sacramento and am looking for a good area to hunt.

Sorry buddy, but this is not the spot to ask for where to hunt. This thread is for found actives. However, I will say, if you are an hour north of Sacramento, I bet you can find some very close to you. Just get out and hunt every chance you get.
Gotta take the dog for a walk?- Be huntin Gotta go to the store? Why not walk there and hunt along the way? Bored and sick of the lockdown? Go for a bike ride around town, and HUNT!! Oh and google maps is your friend for finding large wood chip patches...
All that being said......
I"M ON THE BOARD HERE ON THE NORTH COAST!!!
Finally one of my cyan patches started producing. This is damn near a whole month later than last year!
I am really on the lookout for some liberty caps here in CA (I've got some good ideas on where to look!)
Good luck hunting everyone!

Mind.at.large - I’m hoping to get up to the north coast at some point I really want to find some libs too. I was up there a few weeks ago but all the potential lib habitats seemed too dry still. Looking forward to seeing what you get! Those cy’s are prime!

Dandurn777 - it’s against the rules to ask specific locations. They are out there though. You are in range just get out there and hunt...it’s just the beginning of the season so there is lots of time. Here is a screen shot off INaturalist I searched ‘Psilocybe’. There are no doubt many that go unfound and unrecorded. You see more finds in bigger cities only because there are more people there looking.

Sorry, not trying to derail the thread. I hunted last year as often as I could but came up empty. I’ve seen several people say they’re in the sac area finding Allenii. I was just curious what locations around the sac area where they’ve been spotted. Definitely looking forward to trying to find some holiday treats 🍄.

Thanks for the tips everyone. At least this year I’m starting out in the beginning and not catching it midway through. Sorry for asking for location.
