For real tho.
I feel the same exact way.
This weather is depressing & whack AF in so many ways.
I miss when Cali had a winter...When the Sierra actually received snow.

Tho one should still keep an eye out for ovoids ....I have yet to find them myself, they're not as common as cyans or allenii in our area, but they can def be found around nor-cal and from looking at old reports/finds of them in our area they seem to fruit just a little later than cyans & allenii (late winter early spring). -OM

yeah i'm curious about these. do you know if they are found in the same cyan and allenii habitat? what are the nuances? I have some ovoid prints trying to get some cultures to introduce to outdoor SF spots.

I drove all the way to the gate on Sonora Pass recently and there was hardly any snow at all. Just patches of ice. Even found some snowplants trying to pop out already.
Sorry for going off topic. Shits depressing though.

It's impossible to know if ALL the ibotenic acid is converted before ingestion. However, by following the above method it can be reasonably assured that 80-90% and potentially even more of the ibotenic acid is converted to muscimol before ingestion. At the very least, the remaining ibotenic acid remaining in the mushroom material should be below the threshold dose. As long as the ibotenic acid is below the threshold dose, no adverse effects will be felt.

I found my first ovoids in the same patch that cyanescens were fruiting from the previous fall. So yeah they definitely coexist in cyan or allenii patches. Or at least are able to given the proper circumstances. Here’s some of the fruitings from this beautiful patch

Nah not in California sorry..NW Washington. I’ve, been lingering in this thread a while now. Just figured I’d show some recent evidence that they are able to fruit in the same bed in massive flushes. The cyans at this spot were picked pretty bare in the fall. Came back on a whim in the spring and was blessed with this new species. Fruiting in massive clusters. A lot of them rotted and crisped up in the sunny weather since not very many people knew to look for them I suppose. By far the largest flush of a psilocybe species I’ve found so far.

Haha yeah I felt a little strange posting but I’ve been following this thread from the beginning since I used to live down in nor cal. Plus yeah it was really mind blowing finding them in the same bed coexisting at least for a certain period of time. Have a couple experiments with woodlovers coexisting together hopefully next fall I see some different fruits in the same planter fruiting together🤙

Idk you’d know better with looking at them in person but they are not looking like Psilocybe to me. I’d say Marasmius sp. you might wanna make an ID post for them and see how others weigh in.

openmind said: Where abouts are you driving from to the bay? If you're anywhere in northern california you don't need to drive to the bay area to find them...These mushrooms can be found just about anywhere in northern California. Sure closer to the coast is a bit more prime climate and certain areas/municipalities do have more prime substrate/habitats, but these mushrooms can be found all through out the state.
I'm based in Placer county. There are some pretty big spots around the banks of the American river and Folsom lake that mushrooms thrive. I think I might go look for Gymnopilus Luteofolius and Gymnopilus Thiersii along Folsom lake after the rain.
https://ggweather.com/seasonal_rain.htm
The precipitation we have gotten so far this year was so little that I doubted it would trigger anything meaningful. That's why I was hoping this very late rain could cause some sort of mushroom miracle.

I do highly recommend that book by Kevin Feeney. The Fly Agaric Compendium is a very informative resource!

Do any of you more experienced people think we're likely to see another wave of mushrooms if the weather turns rainy again? Or does the active stuff only appear once earlier in the season?
