I was going through my stuff today and found a bag of shrooms dated November 11th 2019. Man, none of my spots are showing any signs of activity at all. It's bone dry out there. Even some of the irrigated spots look more dry than they should be. This is definitely not California's year for mushies. I'm glad some have been seen popping up here and there in Berkeley, and I saw someone find an impressive patch in Santa Cruz, but regionally as a whole its pretty rough.

There's nothing wrong with this year yet. It's still extremely early. The past two years it didn't start raining until December. The true season really hasn't started yet. I'd call this pre-season.

True, true. Per the drought monitor, all of the bay area is experiencing moderate, severe, or extreme drought though. Would be nice to have a few extra weeks in the mushroom hunting season though with wet weather hitting earlier, as it often does. I guess I'm spoiled by 2017, which was such an epic year. I'm very ready for the rain.

Found these guys in San Francisco this morning, the day after a solid 8 hour storm. I went to a spot I've seen Allenii sprout each of the past two years in massive numbers. I'm talking 200+.
This was the first sprout of the year! Gonna go back in a day or two to see if there's been any additional growth.

Nice finds guys.
Found some allenii in Oakland today. These were at an apartment complex where I found allenii back in 2018, but this is a new patch. The original patch only fruited in 2018 as far as I know.

Love those Allenii! Found a handful of cyans in known spots, and found these guys in a new spot yesterday. Irrigated landscaping in SF.

At first I thought Allenii, but they're aren't nearly as sturdy as the allenii I usually find are. There was a big one that was pretty ugly, they're a little more yellow than caramel, and the bruising isn't nearly as prominent as the cyans and allenii I typically pick. Ovoids maybe?

Hoping this patch will flourish in the south Santa Clara county. I first spotted these a week ago. The picture is from yesterday. The other patches in the near area from last year are so much drier and no signs of pinning.

Hey guys I’m somewhat new to California, have you guys heard of any being found somewhere in SoCal? I live is a small wooded town called Fallbrook where there’s Equestrian trails and such and have started to look around there but if I had some pointers I would be very thankful! Also somewhat off topic but does anyone know how the legalization in Oakland affects spore shipments? I know there could potentially be other ways to study spores but I’m just curious is all.

Mmmm I'm still leaning towards allenii despite the lack of sturdiness. Maybe the substrate was lacking of nutrients/old? Idk

Not easy lol. They look fairly dry, past their prime. But your last image shows clear bruising on the caps. So that points toward psilocybe. Likely cyanescens. I assume that last picture was taken hours later after an attempt to get prints. Did you get anything? Try to post them as new ID request, you'll have a better chance to get a definite ID.

Things are shaping up good out there, and I'm seeing more rain in the forecast! I made my usual rounds this morning, more and more patches are showing signs of life. Mostly cyans but some allenii as well. Here's some highlights, as well as a friendly reminder to brush up on your G. marginata and P. filaris ID skills. Note the Pholiotina in the foreground on the last photo. Happy hunting!

Nice!
I circled around my spots tadday too, not much I could find. It's still super dry in the central valley and even the irrigated spots are "silent" yet. I did find a new allenii spot tho, but the fruits are super small:

Oh well...
