California Fall 2020 / Spring 2021 Season Actives 1

Hello friends!
Despite the warm and dry weather conditions across California, actives are emerging within irrigated landscapes. I woke up with a hunch this morning and decided to check on an irrigated Cyanescens patch in the south bay area. Sure enough, lots of new pins were forming and many small caps were maturing. The vast majority were battered by the warm weather, but I'm stoked nonetheless!
There's still no rain in sight, but it might be worth checking on your spots. I've heard reports of east bay Allenii fruiting as well. Best of luck, and happy hunting!

Nice! I checked a few days ago and saw nothing, I guess I'll look again. I think it's the cold nights that triggers the fruiting. Monday it's supposed to hit 41F overnight, maybe that will wake up my patches.

I figured this thread would be popping up any day. I'm excited to see that at least some well-irrigated spots are producing.
I'm about to learn how to do a rain dance

Despite lack of rain I found a few early rising cyans in dune grass habitat about a week ago. It’s been cold enough, just not wet enough. We just got a nice dousing the last few days. So I’m venturing out soon, fingers crossed that we’ll see our first significant flushes.

There's this huge coastal dune area near me, but I have no idea if there are cyan spores out there.

Not bad for next to no rain, and lots of wind. The south bay is still producing in irrigated zones, but I'm looking forward to some more stable weather patterns and the possibility of more rain soon. Happy hunting!

Most of my dune patches were showing cyan pins a couple of days ago, but nothing prolific. Venturing out this week to look for new plots. Licking my chops at this coming storm.
Experienced cyan dune hunters, this is only my third season on the hunt. I've come to recognize potential plots being helped along by evidence of other hunters placing crushed lupine on the ground. Are they spreading mycelium or just trying to maximize potential habitat and natural spread? Around what time of the year should this be done? I want to help spread the love.
It could just be that cyans are easier for me to find in depressed dune grass rather than grass that's been left tall. But, I tend to find them flushing more prolifically when they're not totally crowded. As if depressing some of the grass also helps them along. The amazing flushes I see from the Bay Area landscaped wood chip beds aren't competing with other ground cover. I've also seen photos of nice flushes from what appear to be park-like settings with very short grass. Again, very little ground cover competition vs. something like thick dune grass. What's your take on all this? Am I potentially helping some of the dune plots by walking through them a little early after the grasses start dying and before we should expect pins?

It's such a far drive for me to get to my patches I'll probably wait for the rain.

Found a nice new allenii patch in berkeley today on my lunch break.

I finally accomplished my goal of finding some before the rains started (technically it rained here for a few minutes last week, but I'm not counting that).
