Can it still be used?

My cousin asked if I wanted one of his agar plates. They're contaminated. The picture isn't great, but I was just wondering if it would be possible to get any form of transfer off of it, or if it should just be trashed. I'm waiting on mine to colonize and figured this would be fun to play with in the meantime.

He lives in another state. I live in one of the three unlucky states that can't receive spores, so I'm gonna funnel them through him. He'll be sending one of these with them. Do you think the contam could infect the syringes?

You can probably get a clean transfer. That's how you clean up cultures after all, on agar. I'd say they aren't a waste but I wouldn't use them to inoculate grain or anything else until you do transfers and confirm your cultures are clean.

What about shipping them with clean spore/culture syringes? I hadn't initially thought of that, but I'm wondering if that may be too risky. If.you missed my comment above, he offered to send it when I asked if I could funnel them through him, cuz I live in one of the three States.

Just put them in separate ziploc bags. They'll be fine. The contams from the plates won't make it into the syringes.
