So early this spring, stuck in and bored, I started this outdoor patch. I had read it would be about 3 months tiil fruiting. I got an early start, waited all through summer, but as fall approached I wasn't seeing anything but mycelium underneath. I figured I would be waiting til next year. But over the last month it has been raining, and we have been getting plenty of these beautiful mushrooms.

This was a purchased sawdust block. I used an enhanced lasagna tek, which normally incorporates alternating layers of woodchips, spawn, straw, spawn etc. To that, I mixed in the gaps of each layer with some gypsum, pasteurized Hpoo, compost and topped it all off with some mulch.
Next step will be to add more woodchips and straw to this patch and possibly take a bot to start a new patch.

Nice!
I wonder why some have the wine color tint on the caps but others are brown?

They start off red. That first bucket wasn't discovered till a lot of them were more mature. Those two in the top pic literally fell over because they were so big. But some of the others were probably there longer and start drying out a bit more. There's also spore deposits on some of the caps, which make those areas look darker. You see it right in the middle of the tub pic.

Wow! Nice work. I've been meaning to grow these forever but haven't had much success yet.

I once started a wine cap bed outside years ago. The bed produced extremely well for two years and now the wine caps show up every year in all sorts of places. They are prob the easiest mushroom to grow in my opinion. I love growing oysters indoors but wine caps spread like wildfire outside. Only problem with them is Im not crazy about their flavor or texture. Their caps are "ok" to use like a portabello burger, but their stems are awful. The stems are pretty much inedible. They are beautiful though.

Very nice! I watched a video on Paul Stamets' YouTube recently where he advised to not eat them for 3 days in a row to avoid digestive troubles.
