As per the title:

Picked that little beauty up from eBay for $150. Haro, and in my perfect colors too!! Absolutely cracking little bike, and the first time I've ridden a BMX since I was a teenager!!
Got it so I could exercise my mega-high energy puppy better. She's getting really good at running with me too. That was but ten minutes ago, after a rainy nighttime ride around the neighborhood.
Here's her in action a few nights back!!

Riding something like that BMX would kill me.
I had a lovely full size bike with similar handlebars, no gears, very comfortable to ride. Some fucker stole it. I'd left it hidden in some shrubbery by a river while I went 'mushing' in a nearby field.
I've been riding the bike I bought for my daughters 12th birthday some 28 years ago for the last umpteen years. It's starting to sound it's age now, creaks worse than me!

I'm riding what the Dutch call a Grandma Bike, deliberately diarroea colored, with completely worn bicycle bags on the back that are almost 40 years old and used to be my moms.
The pedals mismatch, the saddle mismatches, its an oddity.
Why oh why?
Bicycle theft is a big thing in Holland. Getting an unappetizing looking bike and making it look worse than it is is the best way to assure the bike still is there when you get back.
My bike covertly has quality. Anti puncture tyres, all-metal pedals, comfy gel saddle, exactly what you need when you need to haul ass weighing 375 or so lbs.
But it looks like shit, deliberately, so that it will not be stolen.

This particular pic is not mine, but I've got the exact same bike. Try to hop on it daily. Often ride it pretty slow looking for dinner. Hauled a ton of chickens & hens out of the woods with it!

Those are sweet! I cherish all my bike riding times because sometimes it seems like you are on the edge of life and death and it's ok to get a thrill but now I like to ride slow with a simple beach cruiser or even tripod with some bump in the back.
My main thrills came from rock climbing, river rapid running, and abandonment wild training, fires too large that could consume or engulf and entire human and storms that rage throughout nations.

Actually I upgraded my grandma bike to a bike, that, yes, is built like a tank:

The Azor PKW (Dutch brand of dutch bike)
I weigh nowhere near it but this bike can actually be rode weighing 500 lbs. The oversized steel frame and durable anything makes it so. Its a bike to carry heavy loads on, be it the cyclist, a passenger or a ton of stuff. This bike is a favorite for those who do delivery on bicycles, like newaspapers.

I honestly don't bike very much, but I did pick up a pretty cool Marin Muirwoods 29er several years back on sale at REI for like $500. It's a bit heavy, but a nice smooth ride with medium width tires, commuter style but still fun. Here's the wife and kiddo rockin' it in Joshua Tree with our FollowMeTandem attachment for the kiddo's Schwinn.

My wife's bike is something serious, a Seven Cycles titanium road/race bike we got "at a good price" for just under ten grand (and she's added a couple thousand dollars of upgrades since). She rode a classic Lemond before, as well as a fixie for fun, and picked up the 7 Cycles a year ago and has just been ripping 50-130 mile rides on the regular. A former coach of the women's national cycle team in El Salvador whom she met on one of the group rides here in LA has taken her under his wing for training and she's actually racing today, her first official race! She's been setting segment records all over the city and multiple former and current pro's have told her she really has a shot in the race scene, including some local well regarded teams inviting her to join them in an official capacity... so let's see what happens!

This is more my speed though

A good bicycle is a great thing to have, not just for exercise, especially with covid, but also to get from A to B in a pinch.
Bycycling is second only to swimming in low impact ang high utility, because the motions of bicycling are very beneficial for everyday life.

My wife has always been a flippin' superstar athlete, from ice skating and gymnastics in her youth, to her days playing up to 5 back to back games of soccer in a day through college and after, to running marathons and absolutely ripping up the slopes on any mountain reasonably accessible to a human... she has inspired me and motivated me to push myself harder than I had previously, and it has been a rewarding experience. All the same, that level of high octane activity takes a toll on the body. We are presently in our later 30's, and she has an 8mm herniated disk that pops in and out of her lower spine, in addition to arthritis and reconstructive surgery from the ACL she snapped on the slopes right before we got involved some ten years ago. All of that really took a mental toll on her, as although she has an incredible pain tolerance, her body would no longer allow her to do what her mind called upon her for.
Welcome the bicycle. It is indeed low impact enough to allow her the opportunity to push herself into new realms of athleticism that allow her to work around her physical ailments, and I can see what an amazingly positive experience it has been for her mentally and physically. To anyone who wants to be active but faces physical obstacles, I would encourage you to consider trying some time on a cycle.

My old school GT idrive 3.0
Got it brand new more than 20 years ago. It mostly sits hanging in the garage. Since it was a fairly early on full-suspension bike with high end parts (XTR front and rear derailers) I'm hoping it turns "vintage" someday and be worth a little coin. Highly unlikely, I know.

I don't want to drag preparedness into every topic, but having a bicycle allows you to move through jammed traffic independently of fuel availability and moreover, since you're a cyclist you got better toned muscles for propelling yourself on foot too.
With some training you can literally bicycle a marathon (26 miles) as no biggie as a non athlete.
Geo, very sorry to hear that your wife has such chronic illness to cope with, its great though that she found bicycling as a healthy alternative. I hope she won't push herself too hard with that too.
Maybe Tai Chi on the lawn as a family activity? Getting better in tune with the balance and harmony of things, between body and mind, and also in the family and with nature.
I'm in my late 40s and it really does add up. The more you do for your health in your 30s, the better your 40s will be, and thereafter.

I love cycling. My newest ride is a Trek Checkpoint SL7 (the red one). My plan is to ride it from Astoria, OR to Virginia Beach, VA in 2023.
