Cannabis beer

I’m getting ready to brew up another batch of beer and want to try infusing cannabis into it. I’m thinking a hazy style, hoppy, ipa but am trying to decide when to add the cannabis.
I probably won’t be adding actual buds but just leftover cannabis stalks and trim. I am going more for the flavor of cannabis more so than a potent knockout beer. However, a little weed buzz from a few beers sounds like a cool thing! I’m thinking of grinding up the stalks, adding an oz at the end of the boil, and then adding another oz or two after the primary fermentation, along with some more hops.
I haven’t figured out my recipe yet but I’m wondering if anyone has experience with this and has advice

you are not going to get any type of buzz by just adding stems /leaves - in cannabeer the stems/roots etc are added as a bittering agent as cannabis is related to hops. i once made a cannabis vodka using about an oz of dried bud in 70cl - it had the effect of turning my test pilot (friend) into a cabbage for about 6hrs , cannabis and alcohol are very synergetic but too much will make you sick as a dog.
have fun making your beer , if you have a look around the net you can find some pretty hair-raising ancient beer recipes. https://oct.co/essays/history-hallucinogenic-beers-magic-mushrooms-henbane

You'll want to add your material post fermentation. I've done a couple ipa's with fan leafs added during the dry hop. The aroma was very pronounced and it didn't have any off flavors as a result. Happy brewing I'm looking forward to seeing your results.

Oh yes, I know what you mean
I'm definitely not looking for a strong weed high from this beer. More just flavor and aroma. If I do decide to make a strong cannabeer, I would probably add a potent tincture post-fermentation. But, to be honest, I'm not really a big fan of strong edibles. They are great for sleeping or getting way too paranoid, but not much else.
I've currently got a ridiculous amount of cannabis stalks/trim from a buddy's farm, that I've been growing oyster mushrooms on, and every time I walk into my shed, where I store them, I get that wonderful danky aroma, which just seems perfect in a beer.
Thanks for the tips greenhorns, that's what I'm leaning towards; throwing them with the dry hop. I'm also thinking of just sticking with leaves/trim and forgetting about the actual stalks. Or maybe using stalks in a mead...
How much leaf did you add to your beer? I recently brewed up a candy cap stout, but had no idea how much candy caps to use, so I just put all 2 oz dry that I had left. Turns out, I did not need to add that much haha! The beer itself is fuckin delicious, and the candy cap flavor is super powerful, but I do wish I saved a little of the mushrooms for something else. Oh well, they will be popping back up any time now...

Lucky duck. I've been searching for candy caps the last 2 years with no luck. I brewed a beer at work with candy caps last year and it was very nice.
I don't recall how much leaf I just used what i pruned fresh that day. It was a full grocery bag in 5bbl of beer but double that would have been right in the pocket. I would avoid stalks since they do retain so much moisute and nutes your bound to get some off flavors and dissolved oxygen for sure. Fresh fan leafs are where it's at.
And a thought on having a cannabinoid rich beer. I would assume the fermentation process would degrade anything active in your paydirt and you don't want to add a tincture in the boil. The best way to get cannabinoids into a beer would be to blend a alcohol tincture post fermentation after you crash it and get it off the yeast. That's how I'd do it at least.

It took me a while to find a good amount but last year I hit the jackpot! If that patch is as bountiful as it was last year, I’ll totally send you some! I just gotta remember haha hit me up in a few months to remind me.
I had such a hard time finding true candy caps. Red Lactarius is damn near everywhere but I found the lighter trick to work great at quick IDs. Just burn a little and if you smell that classic candy cap/maple syrup smell, ya got it!
I’ll probably avoid the stalks and get a bunch of leaves. Plenty to go around right now as everyone harvesting! Thanks for all the tips!

the method greenhorns mentioned above is what i did for my cannabis vodka , i did an iso wash on 1oz dried bud let it evaporate then redissolved in high proof vodka - the only problem doing this with a beer is that the oils would drop out of suspension when adding to low proof beer (not that a Cloudy beer would bother most ppl who made the effort to do it )
