BRF not fully colonized, but mushroom grows on top, what to do?
    #27010193 - 10/29/20 11:40 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

So I did not pay attention that much, especially because, the BRF cake that I am talking about is VERY old (about 6 weeks now?) but I tried to make BRF cake from a spore print (which sucks, but I did not know back then).

The cake itself looked Ok, so I thought, I just keep it.
2 Days ago I checked it, and it was not very much happening.
Today I looked and saw a nearly finished Mushroom growing out of the cake. so... what to do?^^ let it still sit in the mason jar, or do I put it in the fruiting chamber?^^ Do I pluck the mushroom and wait?

Its fine you can cut the cake and let that grow or you can put it in a mono tub ground. Coco coir, verm and gypsum,

Cut the cake = cut away the parts that are not colonized?

Ok sorry, I should have used the search function.
Was kinda exited to see my ever first mushroom (even if the way was bad).

So I tried to get rid of the not colonized BRF and there I saw that only about 40% and pretty much nothing on the inside was colonized.
I am trying to dunk and roll the bit I have left and learned alot on my way.

You can fruit i right in that jar if you would like. Or you can pluck that little guy, birth the cake, dunk for 12 hours, roll with fresh verm and place it into your FC just like normal. Not too late. Nice fruit 👍

EDIT ----> Did not read that part about the cake not being fully colonized yet. Usually the reason why they start pinning invitro is because 100% colonization is a fruiting trigger. If there was still uncolonized BRF it's probably due to contaminants that the mycelium could not colonize. No big deal, wash off the uncolonized portion and fruit as normal. Do you have any more pics of that cake?

The cake is more or less completly destroyed^^ So I don't want to post a picture xD.

The problem was, this was my first ever attempt on BRF cake from a spore print. No agar work nothing. And it was about 8-10 weeks ago.
So I think that just a lot went wrong which is totally fine. I learned alot on the way and have good looking cakes right now from a Liquid Culture.
I plucked the shroom (went blue at the plucking part, so thats good)
smells normal (for me, I have no comparison, just smells like mushroom).
I dunk the "cake" now, and see if any other shroosm grow (just for fun), while waiting on the good cakes ^.^.

Thanks anyway
