Keeping the right temp with winter

I having a little difficulty keeping my temperatures correct. Where I live the temps drastically change during night and day. I have a space heater in my room but I constantly have to adjust it with changes in temperature. I have a heating mat but I donβt use it because I read it can dry out the bottom of your tub. Idk itβs getting frustrating. I need help.
Thanks, Ex

a dirt cheap thermostatic plug that you would plug the space heater into would keep your room within about 2 degrees either side of what you want
unless your house is real cold it may not be necessary anyway. How cold is cold then?

I have my setup in my bedrooom. Sometimes during the day it gets too hot so I turn of the space heater and then while Iβm sleeping it will get down to about 65. I have a metal shelf I bought from Home Depot. Can I drape it with a thick plastic and put a small heater. But I think that would mess up my FAE.

65 is on the low side but it will still work
honestly the thermostatic plug will solve your problems if you wanna be sure
or a different heater that has at least some sort of variable control, they often don't show any temp numbers and look like they are sorta high medium and low on the dial, but the dial on them works thermostatically and cuts off at a certain temp. Dunno how your heater is... Will take some fiddling but it should work

Yea Iβm just not sure.. I also have 7 Brf cakes that gave great 1st flushes. I always thought the 2nd flush was better but it was worse. I got a lot of aborts and smaller fruits. I picked them up today and they felt dry. So I decided to dunk them again. I donβt know if thatβs because of the space heater maybe drying them out. I just am trying to get my tub dialed in to where it produces a lot of great looking fruits but these temps are making it difficul.

You can use your heating mat IF your use it the right way! It may need air flow and distance sometimes depending on model and temperature. Your really got to try different setups and document temps till you get it right and balanced. And you got to think about the condensation it may create.
Otherwise try to isolate your tub so that it does not take as mush damage from fast temp shifting as it causes abortion and other problems. Another tip is to secure your house more like checking air drafts from windows, that could help mush to maintain a more balanced temp in your house.

And be aware that the heating mat can be a fire hazard if not used the right way. Again depending on model.

I got the hearing mat from a Midwest grow kit awhile back. What is the proper way to use a heating mat?

Using an insulated box or a box lined with thick blankets is a good choice. Live mycelium generates a small amount of heat so if you keep your jars in an insulated box or box with thick blankets, they should be pretty good even during winter. Just try to keep your room about 50F.

As low as 50 F? I would very cold. I just got discouraged because my Brf cakes were nice big clusters the first flush. The 2nd had a lot of aborts and small fruits and I think itβs because of the temperature changes from night and day...anyway Iβve dunked those cakes this morning hoping they grow big clusters atleast once more

Ooops, that was a typo. I meant to say about 50F, such as in the 60Fs (lowest).
Temp can cause aborts but also dry-out can cause it too. Are you misting as needed, making sure they dont get too dry?

Yea Iβm still misting and fanning my Brf cakes. My ones on the first flush have big fat pins like my 3 other that Iβm dunking now. My tub has pins so Iβm not as interested in the cakes as much now but I still wanna get the most out of them.
