Shrooms and brain function - Specifically for studying
    #26997807 - 10/22/20 11:54 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Hey Guys, I don't see very many conversations on this topic. I assume most people don't have to worry so much about this sort of thing. I notice that for maybe a few weeks up to a few months after I do shrooms that my attention span isn't what it used to be making memory acquisition more difficult. Problem is, I need to be studying for a massive test for the next 6 months. I feel like I need to put a halt on shrooming for a while, but I recognize that my depression will likely also get the best of me in that timeframe.

Do any of you have experience with studying dense, detail oriented material in the weeks after a shroom trip? Do you notice a difference? Do you have tips and tricks for maybe bouncing back more quickly?

Thanks!

honestly i think studying is a lot to do with the sheer amount of time you can spend with the material. your brain will get some idea about it eventually if it's there, just don't try and burn through all your energy until you start to hate it. IMO it gets way harder to learn once i'm just legitimately sick of the stuff i'm supposed to be learning.

as with many things, attaining a calm mind is somewhat of a more worthy goal than attaining a purely focused mind!

You might try zen meditation. Stimulants are also another option.

I've never really felt any impact on attention or memory from mushrooms. In fact, if anything I always felt a little better mentally after mushrooms. But that's when doing them infrequently, if you're doing them frequently, yeah, you should stop for a while.

I've never had an issue with attention or energy a couple of days after tripping. If anything, I have more energy and notice more for 1-3 days after, then the benefits seem to drop off.

I'd say, if it impacts you in such a way, take a break.

I find that enough sleep + daily exercise (and one day being extra intense cardio) keeps my energy and focus up, irregardless of whether I trip or not.

switch to microdosing.

also for studying switch to pad and pens, write everything,  then summarize those notes into a smaller set of fewer notes, and then to a smaller set of points. do this for all your courses.

Yes, this is true. You may be onto something with the "calm mind" idea. When I can't focus it's typically because I have too many other things I want to think about.

I am trained in transcendental meditation if that works. I do that 20 minutes twice daily.

I've been starting to exercise more lately to help my brain. This test is super important so I'm trying many things to keep my brain in good shape!

Honestly did think about trying to microdose. I tried it before for a period of a few weeks (1 day on 2 days off) and it seemed to make me feel more depressed (perhaps I needed to work through something?) Might try this again though.

A common theme through some of these posts is that it doesn't affect you in this way, which I'm sort or surprised to see. Either it doesn't affect you this way or you haven't had to use enough of your brain to run into it  but I'll trust your judgement on your functions. Another theory of mine is that perhaps I just I have ADD and it's more noticeable (or more pronounced?) after I trip. Hmmm. Maybe I will squeeze a trip in early on in my studies and reflect once more on how it affects me. Now I'm wondering if I'm just blowing this out of proportion.

Iv done mushrooms 100s of times no lasting side-effects that are negative. Iv allways felt better afterwards like life is amazing an the things i worry about are waste of energy an time.

I think tripping is a good mental vacation as well an helps clear the clutter out.

thanks Ferdinando for finding that reference, and sharing it here.

the thing is that when you study with or without drugs, you are not spending time in the cycles that spin endlessly around depression.

using the same energy as spinning, while studying, you are reviewing, categorizing, assessing, intoning, checking facts, comparing dates, measurements, spelling, writing lists, drawing the connections, checking requirements etc.

there is no time to crash.

I became more aware so it is easy for me not to crash

basically it is like I am driving around and not attracted to crash so I just don't go there

that's best

for me and my surroundings

and my time

the lectures say all they have on the tests

your grade will depend on how much of it you have learned

and wtehr you pass will depend on how much of it you have learned

when you get the books read everything then write everything as redgreenvines said

some personal tips:

good pen

buy the best you can find

it might just be a thing

but things have different qualities and looks

and studying has high priority

and importance

so when you get a pen that looks good and appealing

that can make you study more

you are more likely to sit and do it more with a good pen

google search

top 10

this is paraphernalia though and might not be that important but maybe the same with pad

at lectures write everything the lecturer sais

something I do and you might get benefit from but might not be that important or important if it works for you you can do it

recite

learn point by point

repeat so you know several points

connect to root title

write root title

be able to say all of it

3 or 10 points or something like that

good luck with the microdosing

you have great taste in chemicals

I'm glad you choose the best

I think I figured out my main issue. It always comes back to Trauma. Just gotta keep my focus and keep working out my issues.

Thanks all who replied, I did pick up some good tips

good luck with that

yes there is lots of work to do on oneself

all good

milling

processing trauma and dark stuff to happiness

drawing helps too

there are many alternatives to what redgreenvines said subjects that spin endlessly around depression

or what it was

you know becoming happier because doing something meaningful or productive

drawing does something similar

painting

etc.

lots of portalt into a better and happier etc. world

and life

and time

it may take a long time to figure out

but it does not take long to do it

it is about what activities one is in

and what one is doing

common sense

the essence of zen
