Are these pink oysters or some contaminant?
    #27009427 - 10/28/20 10:41 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

I was growing out to bulk with what I thought was grain spawn of the milky mushroom (Calocybe indica). However after full colonization, there was no sign of milky mushroom pins. These pink oyster-looking mushrooms popped up soon, and even from a hole at the bottom of the planter.

The one from the hole at the bottom grew much larger than the ones on top, is this characteristic of oysters?

I am also unsure of whether these are oysters or not and would like help in identifying them.
The reason I am skeptical is, the outer edges of the larger mushroom are discontinuous, like you would expect of chicken of the woods and idk if oysters do that.

The spores are pinkish-white.

It is entirely possible the lab I bought from mixed up the spawn bags and I just want to confirm.

They do appear to be pinks. A quick google search should provide you with some examples. They tend to grow like that as they age with their caps growing ruffled. Some telltale signs are little to no stem that is off centered with gills running down the length. There really isn't any look-alikes that have those same features. Oysters are pretty easily identifiable.

Okay then, that's great. I did do a google search, everything looks pretty muhc like an oyster but my concern was the ruffled edges, couldn't conclusively rule it out till I knew about that. Thank you for your help.
