Identification Help: Panaeolus cinctulus, Panaeolus papilionaceus or neither?
    #27009265 - 10/28/20 08:54 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Hello,

Sorry to not introduce myself. My name's Aaron and I live in Hawaii.
I've only had one experience with psychedelics - a small
dose of LSD; I remember bubbles animating on the dish washing bottle
and Yo-Yo Ma playing the cello on a cd cover.

My objective is to become more knowledgeable about psilocybin
and it's benefits having struggled with mental issues for the
past 15 years.

Currently I'm prescribed Lamotrigine for so-called "bipolar disorder"
and Adderall because remaining focused is difficult. Mixing these
substances is another concern I have..

That being said, I've come across a small patch of mushrooms
around the area. A few days ago while attempting to upload the
images - out of frustration and the uncertainty of psylocybin
I decided against posting. After further research and consulting
a family member, I again went to the area to retrieve more samples.

* There was a link on this website which led to Mushroom Observer.
These samples seem to match the images and description provided.
Also, another post had samples that looked very similar
but I'm still requesting a confirmation to be safe.

DETAILS:

* Habitat: Small tropical garden area maintained by the park.
The foliage ranged from tall bushes to colorful birds of paradise
and a variety of palm trees. The mushrooms grew randomly throughout
the surrounding area; the soil was particularly moist because of
the recent downfall of rain.

* Location: Honolulu,HI
* Gills: Dark Brown
* Stem: Light Brown & White with blue tones
* Spore: Blue
* Scent: Not familiar with this; fresh and not pungent
* Color when damaged: Blue to Black
* Extra: --- Are these also known as "Blue Meanies"?

Habitat:

Welcome to shroomery!

That looks like some heavily bruising panaeolus. I'm not sure which.

Thank you masspan.
I'm very sorry for posting different images.
My inexperience probably led to picking some
and capturing others; thinking they're the same.
Should I remove the Habitat Examples?

There weren't many left today as the grounds
workers more than likely cleaned the area.

you shouldn't remove anything, this is a living record of people looking for things and sharing others experience, so even flawed id's and conversations serve to inform us all

when you request an id, you need to be consistent, thorough, and ultimately take responsibility for your choices

you do not have evidence of a blue spore print, which it wouldn't be but jet black, and these do not look like the same mushrooms

don't ever consume anything you do not know

this is not abuse, this is advice, be safe

Wish there were more picture of these beauts. Interested to find out what these are as well, definitely looking mighty active. I'm guessing soil is enriched with manure of some sort

This is true :smirk:
While it's great to live in Hawaii, and I do feel very fortunate,
many grow tired of island life and long to visit the mainland;
to experience actual seasons.

Oahu seems over-populated given it's size. If you're you're unfamiliar
with the islands, I recommend doing a quick search on Molokai.
Now that's a true paradise!

Panaeolus cyanescens group, likely a more rare species than Panaeolus cyanescens since it isn't growing directly from dung.  First thing to do is check the spore length.
