So far 2/2 friends ive sent to, "this side up", they arrived through post, survived transport, and fruited.

But

But how do you guys make them so if they Are FLIPPED upside down by retarded mail man and breaking inside, they survived???

Would it be better to just send bags and coir? mailman can flipper that all he want

The four monotubs I misted with bacillus thuringiensis israelensis bacteria are just chugging along to my surprise. I really expected them to get hit with mold by now but other than some fluffy mycellial growth it seems surprisingly healthy.

They do get a large amount of sunlight though instead of fluorescent like I was using prior and I got a great big box fan blowing in this room.
That UV and FAE is a beautiful thing.

I feel like if the growth isn’t getting any better after a T3 it’s not going to get any better so there just no use unless of corse there’s a good reason to go past T3 like just needing more wedges or wanting to make long term plates of a good culture or if your still trying to clean up anything that might be riding along with a really dirty germ plate.

Don't blame the mailman. "This Side Up" doesn't mean shit for delivery companies. Your box travels down conveyor belts and rolls around, gets thrown down chutes, etc.

Anyone else doin it to it lately?

:cool::cool::cool:

LOTS of gourmets coming nearly everyday... narrowed my distribution down to one wholesaler who handles the sale to retailers and restaurants... it's less money/ lb, but less hassle, time, gas, packaging, dealing with people, etc. etc. etc...

Serious question: why couldn't I have found this sooner in life? Lol

Gregg has his reasons I'm sure

I run cultures transfer to transfer: I've got APEU MS cultures on T23 and still drilling tubs... the "isolation" done by transfering is likely negated by random mutations that naturally occur, and the sheer size of the sample when considering microscopy... I cantnconfirm this with a scope, only by observing seemingly "mono"cultures randomly display sectors after many transfers without, with no difference in agar recipe or transfer technique... this is all dependent on a decent initial performance; otherwise it's demoted to shoeboxes for 3 follow up tests, and either performs, produces a clone, or gets scrapped...

The growth is bright white, fluffy tomentose but bumpy near the wedge. This culture has also been putting out what looks like metabolites near the wedge. They’re weird though, not like the amber/yellow metabolites I usually see here, they’re crystal clear like the drops that come with good surface conditions

Talking to me about the bacteria? If so I was having a problem with fungus gnats so I got a larvacide of BTI bacteria and let it flourish in a quart of water before adding some to my mister and then misting a moist substrate so hopefully the sub is just nuts with BTI. It kills gnat larva and not much else. So between traps and deterrants for adults and the BTI for the substrate the population of them seems to have cratered to nearly nothing. Not good for the subs but hey, if they do not mold before the first flush I get a victory over the fungus gnats and some
Fruits.
If you were talking to someone else I apologize.

Ya, but how do u know what strains they were?

Just curious is all...  do u got a scope?

Or u misted them with bacillus?

The way i read it was u misted them and they already had said bacillus strains growing in them

Ahh no no, I intentionally contaminated my monotubs at spawn with the BTI as it's a potent larvacide against mosquito and fungus gnat larvae. Was having some serious contamination issues which I believed stemmed from the gnats. As far as I know the only thing on this planet that it's toxic to is mosquito and gnat larvae. I wouldn't recommend doing this to anyone that didn't have sacrificial monos to spare as in the end you are intentionally creating a bacterial monotub which probably won't produce well and will be a target for mold.

I don't think I've seen one all day now but still keeping up on the traps and lures and all that jazz. I've really cranked up the FAE by running a big box fan in the new room and now with the addition of actual legit sunlight things seem to be going great.

Ah, ok...    i was pretty confused there fer a sec...

So... the only time i ever had gnats it was only in my melmak tubs and they never migrated to any other tubs... it was consistent for a couple of months and i never learned anyrhing from it... i dont have any melmak going atm and theres no gnats

Can anyone off the top of your head think of a HIGHLY air permeable material to use to cover FAE holes in case I ever have one of these rat bastard gnats come back? I'm making my FAE necks for my bags right now and they are the only contaminate I care to keep out so the micron size of the pores can be huge.

A paper like material would be preferred. Even a non-woven fabric I guess. Going to make small PVC lengths for the neck of the bags, put the filter on one end and put them in the neck of the bag so it's got the same kind of FAE setup as those modified Muda bottles with the 2l topper.

Pantyhose right someone mentioned that before fuck I'm dumb today. Think both are necessary if only doing so to keep any future gnats out? Never used polyfil before.
