How Travcon uses Parafilm

*disclaimer* I am fully aware of how this method could be perceived as tedious or overkill. However I enjoy it, and it works for me. I’m also aware of how silly it sounds to explain how to cut paper properly, but I’ve seen people cut parafilm with scissors and I feel like this is more efficient.
items needed 1. parafilm - 2 in. X 250 ft. Roll 2. Paper Cutter - brand doesn’t matter but mine is Fiskars

Notes
1. This roll comes sectioned into squares by thick blue lines. Two squares split right down the middle will make two rectangular strips. In the end, one rectangular strip is more than enough for one Petri dish.

Method 1.Count 10 lines, then use your paper cutter to make the first cut. - I’m making enough for 20 dishes, so I start with two strips of ten squares.

2. Stack your two strips over one another then use your paper cutter to make a cut at every other line. - You should be left with a stack of parafilm two squares/sections long.

3. Place your stack vertically in the cutter, using the number three at the bottom of each section as the middle point. Make the cut - Make certain your blade is long enough to cut a stack this thicc lol

4. Parafilm dries out a bit, so storing in a ziploc bag or using a bit of plastic wrap to preserve its elasticity is recommended. - I have made a stack of 100 that I used over the course of a week and haven’t had issues with them sitting out, but it’s probably best to only cut a few more than needed.

Instead of a paper cutter I get my gf to sit next to me and cut it off the roll with scissors as I need it. However a papercutter is almost certainly less expensive and won't eat your shrooms. Good call.
I've not noticed it dry out, still working through a 10 year old roll actually. Or maybe I've just forgotten what fresh parafilm is like.. hmm.
In any case prepping like this could certainly make for less tedium cutting parafilm when doing a bunch of transfers.

The papercutter doesn’t snore either! girlfriends-0 Papercutter-3
I’ve tried the cling wrap method, then decided to give parafilm a try since it’s what the pros use and I’m never going back lol Using the cutter keeps everything uniform, and having everything precut is one less thing to worry about once I start the SAB work.
Glad you enjoyed it

Did this last night to prep some for my transfers, and I just happened to have the same paper cutter pictured. Thanks for the tip!
