and data mining that they have lost track of what they never had to begin with and now we're just robots.

I found an Osprey the day before yesterday. I assume it was migrating south following a river and got clipped by a car as it flew over a bridge.

I took it home and called around for a wildlife rehabilitator and found Joel Rosenthal WV (facebook) who accepted it. I was worried about feeding it but he opened it's beak with one hand and shoved raw steak in with the other.

unfortunately not true that:

those doing data mining "have lost track"
on the contrary
they do have power and money and they know it
and
are busy accumulating more of both successfully.

but, fortunately not true:

that this makes us robots

so wrong on both counts

Well pointed. I think a lot of people are a little obsessed with AI though and humanity could be seen to be reduced to a "robot" or a product, sheep, resource, slave of the hive mind.

Yes "The Matrix" certainly was a money making story with many movie sequels.

"Gurdjieff taught that most humans do not possess a unified consciousness and thus live their lives in a state of hypnotic "waking sleep", but that it is possible to awaken to a higher state of consciousness." - so from that view the danger is not of losing freedom, but of never realizing its already been lost long ago. He of course got his notions in India.

So I view, what seems to me, to be 'AI paranoia', as a projection, of the most destructive and violent species on the planet, onto an external source, rather than a facet of (oneself) or itself, that (  one or) it, wants to avoid owning or taking responsibility for.

Or it could be used to determine who is breaking the rules. There was also a movie about pre-crime if you remember.

The topic of AI (and the OP) is overly broad, so I'm not going to try to hard to steer this thread in a certain direction. Perhaps the OP could clarify.

an uproarious suggestion. Americans  shall continue to do the experiment until we get the results we are looking for or are thwarted by an act of God.

So by "we Americans" you mean the people of Earth in general? lol

And by that you mean a subset of people or just generally "most people" or "generally the people in charge"?

You're a little light on content and context. Congratulations on being vague and mysterious :cookiemonster:

I guess much of the world has been watching for some time, but you never know what's going on behind closed doors. Looking at the past does provide some clues to the present.

I guess to try and push a topic from this thread I could point out that it's not the people that are robots, it's the robots that are the robots. It was a meme/fad concern in the 80's when automakers started using automation but now a plethora of industries are working out plans to automate and AI will soon fuel various industrial avenues that were previously unreachable. Millions, and perhaps billions out of work.

Everyone will need to be chipped so they can receive their UBI and others can keep track of their social credit score.

Utopia, or a disaster waiting to happen?

I suspect much of the obsession is due to hype, and movies, of which there are many.

.  Even at the basic level of cars the reality is not what its "supposed" to be. See links below.

.    I think the notion of 'the singularity' rests on false assumptions about both consciousness, and self and motivation and so on.
.    Buddhism and the tripping experience of ego death show the human sense of self to be a sort of mirage. To expect a machine to make the same error seems a bit odd, does it not? And consciousness without self has no intrinsic purpose, does it?
.  These facts add support to the notion that, might be labeled, by the phrase:
"AI is both possible and evil" -
.    This is essentially a notion that is a human projection, of its own inner monsters, no different from what children project is under the bed, (because they find their own emotions too scary to handle).
.  And indeed the work of Stanley Milgram is essentially ignored, as it relates to the potentiality of most everyone to be brutal. Even years after S. Freud, the brutal nature of what goes on in much of human dreaming is ignored, and not used as a way to integrate the personality.
(That Freud was in many ways a jerk is beside the point.)
.    And the point is that as we ignore our demons, we are ripe to indulge in the defense mechanism of projection. So for kids its monsters and for adults its "AI". (before AI it was UFOs & alien abductions & cattle mutilations).
.    So again we see the total failure, of any psychological maturity to develop in humans, while superficial technological cleverness runs amok.
